The Cartwright Twins received a masterful pitching performance from Anthony Friesen Sunday en route to capturing the Senior AA Provincial title. The Twins, who are a member of the Border Baseball league, upended the South West Baseball League’s Rivers Comets 1-0 in Sunday afternoons pitchers duel at Nutrient Field in Rivers.
Cartright advanced to Sunday’s championship tilt after defeating the Boissevain Centennials 2-0 earlier in the day, while Rivers required extra innings in their semi-final game to topple the Winkler Whips 6-5.
Eight teams participated over the weekend which also included the Waymor Agencies Home Run Derby on Friday evening. Manny Lanigua, of Winkler, was the derby winner with 5 deep shots on 10 swings.
