CPRSS Presents: Footloose The Musical

Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School Dinner Theatre showcases the diverse talents of our students.  This year, Crocus proudly presents the musical Footloose. A city teenager moves into a small town where rock music and dancing have been banned, and his rebellious spirit shakes us the populace.   When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the adjustment to his new high school. What he isn't prepared for are the local laws - including a ban on dancing - which are the brainchild of a local preacher bent on exercising control over the town's youths. When the Reverend's rebellious daughter sets her heart on Ren, her boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation and many of the locals are eager to believe the worst about the new kid. With its Oscar'-nominated hit score, the celebrated film musical now bursts explosively onto the stage.   To accompany the entertainment, the award-winning Crocus Plains Culinary Arts Department will create a delectable three-course meal.   Seating is limited to 160 guests per show, so be sure to get your tickets as soon as possible. Escape: The Final Countdown, ACC partner on college escape room experience

BRANDON, Man. (March 21, 2018)— Puzzle-lovers and investigative minds in the Westman region can now channel their inner Sherlock Homes or Nancy Drew to solve the mystery of a long-forgotten college romance. Assiniboine Community College and Escape: The Final Countdown have partnered to bring the province’s first post-secondary escape room experience to the public. “Even though we design all of our full-hour and portable escape rooms ourselves right here in house, we have never been challenged with designing one like this,” said Michelle Budiwski, owner of Escape: The Final Countdown. Groups of six to 12 players have only 60 minutes to solve the mystery inside the storyline of their first-day orientation at college. The task at hand? Players must unlock a series of challenges to uncover the identity of their father, an Assiniboine alumnus. Creative thinking, problem solving and communication are all put to the test in this entertaining, light-hearted storyline. “As a college, we’re always looking for new, creative ways to be out in the communities we serve and celebrating students and graduates, all while having a lot of fun,” said Danielle Adriaansen, director of public affairs at Assiniboine. “We had a terrific time working with Michelle and her hardworking team as they took the lead writing the storyline from start to finish and building the room.” And true to the college’s ‘learn by doing’ mantra, a few students pitched in to help the Escape staff build the room, with Carpentry & Woodworking students painting the space and Piping Trades students constructing and installing one of the room’s puzzles. “They have been amazing to work with and actually having things in the room that were built by current students as well as highlighting some of their actual alumni and our game itself is priceless!" said Budiwski. The room was launched earlier this month and will be available for bookings over the coming months. Those interested in learning more or booking a group time to play can visit thefinalcountdown.ca. As an added bonus to current Assiniboine students, they’ll receive $5 off the price of playing just by showing their student card

Brandon’s Ribfest changing locations in 2018

The second annual Brandon Ribfest will be held August 17-19,  on the grounds at the Keystone Centre in Brandon, MB.  BDNMB.CA was able to confirm the location change earlier this afternoon with Sheri Conney, this years Chair of Ribfest. Last year a reported 20,000 attendees were able to enjoy award winning BBQ from three award winning BBQ experts in Texas Rangers BBQ, Crabby’s BBQ Shack and Silver Bullet. Last year's event, presented by the Brandon Sunset Rotary and Brandon Rotaract Club, had a little bit of everything for the whole family.  In addition to the great eats, there was a kid’s zone on the Saturday and Sunday afternoon.  For those looking to enjoy an adult beverage there was a Farmery Beer Tent located onsite and live, local music each day of the event. No word, at this time, of any other potential changes/additions to the event for 2018.

Burton Cummings, Three Day’s Grace, Kim Mitchell, The Headstones among artists named to Rockin’ the Fields of Minnedosa

For the past 14 years this has been the destination for thousands of fans - from Ontario to BC, from Thompson to South Dakota - as they converge to meet with friends old and new and enjoy some of the best live music to be found. The annual rock festival, held each August long weekend overlooking lake Minnedosa, is in the midst of preparations for this their 15th anniversary. The Board of Directors is making some changes to the festival this year. Many of our fans have told us what they want, and as a result we are pleased to announce that Canada’s Premiere Classic Rock Festival will be bigger, louder and better than ever! Artists announced to date include; Kim Mitchell, with an impressive list of hits from both his solo and Max Webster days, has been entertaining fans since the early 70’s. Trooper, widely recognized as Canada's #1 Party Band they are also Canada's oldest and coolest rock band. Chilliwack, with multiple hits from the early 70’s, they were the headliners at the first Rockin’ the Fields of Minnedosa festival. The Headstones, these are a Canadian punk-influenced alternative rock band, known for their high energy live shows, particularly the antics of Hugh Dillon. Three Days Grace's music has been described as post grunge, hard rock, and alternative rock. Whatever the label, this hard hitting band will be releasing their sixth album this March. Burrton Cummings, few artists have achieved the level of public success and critical acclaim that Burton Cummings has enjoyed in a dazzling career, whether as lead singer and songwriter with The Guess Who or on his own. There are many, many more to be announced. The festival site itself features an amphitheatre with built in bench and folding chairs overlooking the main stage and lake. An additional two stages ensure that there is music on throughout the day and evening. With hot showers, vendors, ice, camping, water and septic service, garbage and recycling pick up, onsite security and first aid there are many ways to keep yourself comfortable. The festival is assisted by a virtual army of volunteers, both on the August long weekend and the weeks leading up to the festival. Service clubs, businesses and individuals recognize the importance of the festival to the local economy and are eager to support RFM as needed.
