Woman allegedly threatens people with a knife

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Prior to 3:00 am, police received a report of a disturbance at a residence. A 31-year-old female threatened the other residents in the home with a knife, indicating she would stab them. They hid in a bathroom from the female who repeatedly stabbed the door and attempted to pry it open. Nobody was injured during this incident. The female left the residence after police were called, but then called police herself once she arrived at a separate residence. She was arrested and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre due to her intoxication level. She will be released to appear in court on August 26, 2019.

3 people arrested following disturbance where a bat & knife were allegedly present

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At around 2:43 AM this morning, numerous calls were received from the area of 6th Street and Louise Avenue, extending to calls from the 400 block of 5th and 7th Streets, of a disturbance involving multiple persons, some armed with bats and or knives. A large number of individuals were encountered when members arrived in the area.  As a result of the ensuing investigation, 3 people were arrested: a 17 year-old male for possession of a weapon dangerous (baseball bat and knife) and consuming liquor as a minor; a 14 year-old female for possession of a weapon dangerous (knife); and a 19 year-old male was arrested on the strength of a warrant held by Winnipeg Police Service for mischief to property.  All three were lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre and are to be released from custody later this morning.

Youths Charged in Group Home Disturbance

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Members attended to a report of an assault at a Brandon group home at about 3:45 PM Friday afternoon.  A worker for the home reported that a panic alarm had been activated and it was learned that a worker had been assaulted by two female residents. A 13 year-old accused was charged with assault and the second, who is 12 years of age, was charged with assault and mischief to property; the latter charge for breaking a window in the residence. Both were released back into the care of the group home, at the request of the workers, to appear in court at a later date.

Firearms Search Warrant leads to charges for 33 year old male

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On July 19, 2019, police began conducting a firearms search warrant of a residence in the 300’ block of 2nd Street. Due to the nature of the search, the BPS emergency response team was deployed to ensure the safety of not only all those involved, but the community at large. Police conducted two high risk vehicle stops in relation to the search warrant. The first vehicle stop occurred at 11:26am in the 100’ block of Victoria Ave. As a result of that stop, the driver, a 32 year old Brandon man, was found to be prohibited from driving. He was arrested and the vehicle impounded. A 33 year old male passenger was found in possession of a backpack containing a canister of pepper spray. He was arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon. A 17 year old female passenger was arrested on the strength of a warrant from MFNP for breach of probation. All three were held in custody pending the execution of the search warrant. The second high risk traffic stop occurred near the intersection of 14th Street and Princess Ave. No charges were laid in relation to that stop. At approximately 4:00pm, police made entry to the residence and conducted a search. Located inside was a sawed off bolt action .22 caliber rifle. The barrel was intact; however, the stock was sawed off to the grip. (picture below). The 33 year old male resident was arrested and charged with three firearms offences: unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, and careless storage of a firearm. He was released on conditions for court on September 12, 2019.

Police execute firearms search warrant in the 300 block of 2nd St

Brandon Police Service have now concluded the "high risk portion" of an incident in the 300 block of 2nd Street. According to their Twitter account "Police executed a firearms search warrant which was related to two high risk vehicle stops that occurred just prior". An investigation of the incident is to continue. In earlier Tweets the Brandon Police Service had been advising the public to stay clear of the area for their safety.
