Westman Wave 13U capture gold at premier series volleyball tournament

The Westman Wave 13U girl's volleyball team (Westman Volleyball Club) traveled to Winnipeg this weekend to participate in Volleyball Manitoba's 2020 Premier Tournament. The team ran through the round robin portion on their pool undefeated (3-0) prior to advancing to the playoff championship. They then won their next two two games propelling the girls to the championship final where they toppled the Bison Gold 25-18, 25-23, to claim tournament gold.

Whiskey Jacks add to coaching staff for 2020

In a release today, the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks Baseball Club of the Expedition League, added two names to its coaching staff, to join new Head Coach Walker Bullington this summer in Brandon. SPENCER MILLER, New Orleans, LA – Assistant Coach (Catchers & Hitters), and DANNY RODRIGUEZ, Coral Gables, FL – Assistant Coach (Infielders & Hitters). Both Miller and Rodriguez are from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. Miller is a 1st year assistant with the Badgers, Rodriguez is a graduating senior at the college. “I’m really confident in their abilities in baseball and as communicators, they’ll be excellent additions to our staff in Brandon”, said Head Coach Walker Bullington. The Whiskey Jacks have 24 players signed to date, with more are expected to be announced as the season draws closer. Brandon's Brayden Payette recently captured curling's world junior gold (U21) as Team Canada toppled Switzerland 7-2 in the championship final. Payette (second) spent this season with Team Gauthier from the Assinaboine Curling Club in Winnipeg. What motivates you to work hard: the result in the end, example of curling all my life and winning gold this year makes it all worth it. Would you rather have unlimited sushi for life or unlimited tacos for life: unlimited tacos! You have to assemble a celebrity (non-curlers) co-ed curling team to enter a bonspiel, who do you choose (1 male, 2 females): Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Anniston, Mila Kunis! What was the last movie you went to? What did you think: Fast and Furious, loved it because it’s my favourite series. In the evening would you rather play a game, visit a relative, watch a movie,or read: play games with family or friends! Which county has the most passionate curling fans: Canada! What is your biggest pet peeve with modern technology: people not talking when you ask them something and they are busy on their phones The NHL is planning an exhibition game in Brandon, what two teams would you like to see face off against one another: Toronto Maple Leafs vs Vegas Golden Knights! You have to spend 3-months training in Russia, what three "Canadian" food items do you take with you: burgers! Pizza! Bacon! 2020 Sports For Youth registration event at the Shoppers Mall

The annual Sports For Youth registration event will take place at the Brandon Shoppers Mall on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8.  With nine different organizations represented, the 2-day event serves as a perfect one-stop location for parents to register their children for spring sporting activities in Brandon. As an added bonus, those who complete a registration at the event will have an opportunity to win their registration fee free or a $100 Shoppers Mall gift card. Brandon 10A Wheat Kings lay claim to TOC title

The Brandon 10A Wheat Kings upended the Minot Wolves 8-2 on Sunday to capture the Atom AA title at Brandon's Tournament of Champions. They received goals from seven different players in the game. Denzel Monias led the way offensively with 2 goals while Nate Dykun, Soren Milne, Ty Aldcroft, Asher Gingras, Luke Krieser, and Crew Elder all picked single markers. Owen Stanley chipped in with 2 assists and Urijah Moosetail picked up the win in net for the Wheat Kings.
