City Council Meeting Highlights for July 6, 2026

Brandon First Annual Presentation 

Council received an annual update from Brandon First outlining recent event attraction  efforts, sponsorship activities, and progress on its strategic plan.  

Community Safety and Well-Being Plan Update 

Council received an update on the Brandon Community Safety and Well-Being Plan and  supported for the community plan.  

Financial Assistance for the June 2026 Heavy Rain and 2026 Flood Event Council received an update on the ongoing 2026 flood event and approved requests for  Disaster Financial Assistance from the Province of Manitoba for both June 29 Heavy Rain  Event as well as the 2026 Flood Event. Residents, businesses, and organizations impacted  by either of these events may be eligible for provincial assistance. 

Update on Eastview Landfill New Diversion Depot 

Council received an update on the new diversion depot planned for the Eastview Landfill,  which will provide a centralized location for diverting eligible materials following the  closure of the seasonal depots last fall. The new diversion depot is expected to open this August. 

Brandon General Museum and Archives Board Report 

Council received the Brandon General Museum and Archives report, which outlined the  organization’s planned transition to operate as the Brandon Heritage Centre. The transition  will include establishing a membership structure and moving future board appointments  to the general membership.

Election Services Agreement with Brandon School Division 

Council received an update regarding the renegotiated Election Services Agreement  between the City of Brandon and Brandon School Division for the 2026 municipal election. 

Funding Applications 

Council approved several applications for external funding opportunities, including: • An application to the Government of Canada’s Build Communities Strong Fund – Local Impact Stream in support of: 

o Canada Packers Sports Complex – East Amenities and Naturalization Project o Southwest Brandon Growth Area – Transportation and Water Improvements  Project 

• An application to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Green Municipal Fund in support of the City Hall Renovation Project. 

Any required municipal contributions for these projects have been referred to the 2027  Capital Budget deliberations. 

Indigenous Relations Officer 

Council approved a recommendation directing Administration to prepare information for  consideration in the 2027 operating budget to create a full-time Indigenous Relations  Officer position, while also pursuing federal and provincial funding opportunities to  support the role. 

Association of Manitoba Municipalities Long Service Awards 

Representatives from the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) recognized  members of Brandon City Council for their years of municipal service. • Five Years of Service: Councillors Shaun Cameron and Bruce Luebke • Ten Years of Service: Councillors Barry Cullen, Kris Desjarlais, and Glen Parker • Fifteen Years of Service: Councillor Shawn Berry and Mayor Jeff Fawcett 

By-Law No. 7462 

Council gave first reading to By-Law No. 7462 to open a portion of public road located near  the northeast corner of 26th Street and Maryland Avenue.
