The Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that Finnish forward Marcus Kallionkieli has signed his transfer card and is expected to join the Wheat Kings in 2019-20. Kallionkieli was Brandon’s first selection in June’s Canadian Hockey League Import Draft and was also a fifth round selection (139th overall) of Vegas in this year’s National Hockey League draft. He will join goaltender Jiri Patera as one of the team’s two imports. Patera spent last season in Brandon.

“Marcus is a really talented player,” says Brandon general manager Darren Ritchie. “He’s a big body, skates well and has a heavy shot.”

The organization also announced the appointment of Doug Gasper as the Western Hockey League club’s new Assistant General Manager. Gasper has spent time as a Western Canadian amateur scout for the National Hockey League’s Vancouver Canucks. He also has several years of WHL scouting experience with the Prince Albert Raiders and the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Wheat Kings also made several other announcements during today’s media reception including an update on season ticket sales (2,020) and the hiring of a new athletic therapist, William Sadonick-Carriere.
