Illegal cigarettes, illicit marihuana and cash seized; five charged

On Friday afternoon, members of the Major Crimes Section and Patrol Section assisted by members of Manitoba Finance Taxation Special Investigations Unit arrested five men at a residence west of Brandon in the RM of Whitehead. An ongoing investigation involving the transportation and sale of illegal cigarettes led to the residence where two trucks, an SUV and three cargo trailers were seized along with approximately 680,000 cigarettes, 20.5 kilos of illicit marihuana and more the $20,000 cash. The following subjects are charged and were released on undertakings to appear in court in June and July.

A 33 year old man from Gilbert Plains charged with Possession of Contraband Tobacco and Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distribution

A 52 year old man from the RM of Whitehead charged with Possession of Contraband Tobacco.
