Suspect speeds away from police at speeds in excess of 150 km/h

On October 25, 2022 at 4:50 am, police attempted to stop a vehicle on Victoria Ave. E after numerous traffic infractions were witnessed.  The suspect sped away from police at speeds in excess of 150 km/h.  Police did not pursue the vehicle due to the dangerous manner in which the suspect was driving.

Police later observed the vehicle travelling west along the south 110 bypass travelling at a high rate of speed all the while committing numerous traffic offences.  The vehicle eventually drove off the roadway, into an open field where it came to a rest near Hwy 10 and PTH 110.

Police approached the vehicle, but the driver had fled on foot leaving behind a 22-year-old female passenger.  Further investigation revealed that she had been injured due to an assault inflicted on her by the 28-year-old male suspect/driver.  She was not injured as a result of the crash, and she received medical treatment for the minor injury caused by the assault.

Police set up a perimeter to locate the accused with the assistance of the Police Service Dog Unit.  The suspect was located and arrested a short distance away.  He was found to be in possession of a knife upon his arrest.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle the suspect was driving, a 2022 grey Chevrolet Malibu, was reported stolen out of Brandon on October 17, 2022.  The license plates on the vehicle did not match the vehicle, as they too been reported stolen.

The 28-year-old suspect was lodged at Brandon Police Service to appear in court on charges of Flight While Being Pursued by Police Officer, Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime X2, Possession of a Weapon, and Assault.  He also appeared on outstanding warrant charges of Assault.
