City Prepared For Winter Storms

With the first winter storm approaching, the Public Works Department is ready with snow clearing and sanding equipment. Crews will start clearing when enough snow has accumulated.

Ensuring safe travel on Brandon streets is a priority for the City of Brandon. The Public Works Department facilitates this through the Snow Route system by more efficiently clearing major streets and bus routes when parked vehicles are removed.

Snowfall amount, density of snow, humidity, rising or falling temperatures, wind velocity and direction, along with the time of year, all play a part in how the City’s Public Works Department responds to any snow event.

The city is divided into seven zones for snow clearing, starting with a priority route. This route focuses the first 24 hours of all municipal snow-clearing activities on sections of major thoroughfares under the City’s care to establish a plowed “grid” for commuters and emergency vehicles to access all corners of the City as soon as possible. During any snow event, the Public Works Department requests your cooperation and patience as they work to clear your street as soon as possible.

Residents can stay up to date on all regular snow plowing activities conducted by the City of Brandon’s Streets & Roads Section by visiting snowmap.brandon.ca. Residents can also sign up to receive text notifications at textme.brandon.ca for updates on snow clearing events within the city and specific to their zone.

During a snow event, the snow map will be updated daily at approximately 1 p.m. to reflect the latest progress in snow clearing operations, whether on streets, sidewalks, pathways, or back lanes.

After significant snowfall (more than 5 centimetres) or winds causing drifting on snow routes, the City’s Public Works Department may declare a parking restriction. Vehicles remaining parked along designated seasonal snow clearing routes during such events risk being ticketed and/or towed at their own expense.

Snow Route parking restrictions are in effect from November 15 to March 31 annually. The following locations are designated Snow Routes in the City of Brandon:

Rosser Avenue from 1st Street to 18th Street (23:00 to 08:00)

Rosser Avenue from 18th Street to 34th Street (23:00 to 08:00)

Rosser Avenue E. from 1st Street to 13th Street E. (23:00 to 08:00)

Princess Avenue from 1st Street to 18th Street (23:00 to 08:00)

Princess Avenue from 18th Street to Whillier Drive (23:00 to 08:00)

Princess Avenue E. from 1st Street to 13th Street E. (23:00 to 08:00)

Ninth Street extending from Pacific Avenue to Princess Avenue (23:00 to 08:00)

Tenth Street extending from Princess Avenue to Pacific Avenue (23:00 to 08:00)

Louise Avenue extending from 13th to 18th Street (23:00 to 08:00)
