TOWNHALL MEETING ON BORDER CROSSING
This evening Larry Maguire, member of Parliament for Brandon – Souris, hosted Michelle Rempel, member of Parliament for Calgary Nose Hill, for a town hall meeting on the ‘illegal’ Border Crossings into Canada. At the Riverview Curling Club of Brandon, Michelle Rempel spoke with the aide of a slide presentation entitled, “Increase in illegal Border Crossings”, to a room of approx 160 residents. Both Members of Parliment are part of a House of Commons Standing Committee on Citizen and Immigration. Although tangible things such as our Borders are clear; some items such as how the term illegal is applied to asylum seekers via the presentation – are not so clear. The presentation also highlighted the Conservative parties actions to “hold feet to the fire” of the Liberal government and The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada. Whereas their main solution to the irregular immigration that Canada is dealing with would be to close the Safe 3rd Country loophole.
