Investors Group presents 5th Annual Golf Tournament for Brandon & District United Way
Throughout our short but sweet golf season there comes many a tournament that local duffers can enter. Only one gives you a chance to help out multiple causes while strengthening your community. Year in year out The United Way supports dozens of local charitable groups and organizations. For the past five years the long standing local organization has helped so many with their efforts combined with the support of local donations and events such as this tournament. This is the second year Investor's Group has been on board as the main sponsor of the event.
BDNMB.ca's Frank McGwire sat down with Brandon & District United Way's Director of Operations Janis Evens for a quick Q & A to find out all the details of this tournament which has become one of the bigger charity tournaments this area has to offer.
FM: Hi Janis! Thanks for taking the time out to do this.
JE: My pleasure. Happy to help!
FM: How many golfers / teams last year?
JE: Last year’s tournament we had 96 golfers/24 teams
FM: How much money was raised last year?
JE: When the tournament was all said and done we had raised $12,548.04
FM: Thats' awesome news! Good job!! I would expect you'd like to see that number go up this year. Have you had many people sign up for year five.
JE: Our numbers are just a bit off from last year so we'd really like to give it a big push in this last week before the registration deadline
FM: Aside from just another round of golf, are there any specialty holes IE: Longest drive, closest to the pin etc.:
JE: This year we have Four Hole-in-One Opportunities – Hole #6 will be a chance to win a 55" OLED 4K ULTRA HD Curve TV from Aurora Video/Audio, Hole #8 will be a chance to win $25,000 towards an investment from Investors Group, Hole #13 will be a chance to win a $10,000 Diamond Ring from Reesors Jewellery & Ficek Insurance and Hole #16 is a chance to win $20,000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle from Murray Chevrolet. We also have Men’s & Ladies Longest Drive, Men’s & Ladies Closest to the Pin and Longest Putt.
FM: Wow! Those are some great prizes!! Who is catering the dinner?
JE: Shilo Golf & Country Club provides a delicious meal for our golfers, volunteers & staff following the tournament every year.
FM: How do people / offices register teams?
JE: To register a team for our tournament, anyone interested can call our office @ 204 571 8929 and request a registration card, come into our office on 201 – 1011 Rosser Avenue or email tyler@brandonuw.ca to request a registration card and Tyler can email or mail invoices.
FM: What other finishing touches make this golf tourney stand out from all the others?
JE: For a 5th year in a row Brandon Bus Lines has donated a bus to take golfers to and from the tournament, we also have a driver who volunteers his time to drive the bus. We have lots of great prizes this year to be won following the tournament. Plus! Joe Beeverz has generously donated their time to come out and provide lunch on the course for golfers, we have fun “goodie bags” filled with items for every golfer at the start of the tournament, Quiznos will also be providing some food at the tournament. There will also be fun games set up along the course, Fantasy Golf and great entertainment provided by Bryan Podworny from Expressions Entertainment.
