Assiniboine announces meat retail space name: The Protein Pantry
In late November, Assiniboine Community College announced the opening of its new retail space as part of the Food Processing Centre for Animal Proteins on campus. The college invited the public to help name the new storefront.
Assiniboine has selected a name for its new meat retail shop on campus. The winning entry, The Protein Pantry, comes from Wanda Cameron of Boissevain. In addition to bragging rights, the winning entry came with a $150 gift certificate to the shop, which Wanda plans to donate to the Boissevain Food Pantry. Assiniboine received close to 400 entries to the contest.
In the New Year, signage for The Protein Pantry will be designed and installed. The space is part of the $1.6 million Food Processing Centre, which opened in November. The project was generously supported with a combined $1.165 million from the Government of Canada, Province of Manitoba, Maple Leaf Foods, HyLife Foods, Manitoba Pork, UFCW Local 832, the Brandon Hog and Livestock Show.
The storefront is located at the college’s Victoria Avenue East Campus in room 261. Planned continued hours of operation in the New Year are as follows:
- Monday and Tuesday: noon to 4 p.m.
- Wednesday and Thursday: noon to 5 p.m.
- Friday: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
