Brandon’s Worthington signs with Saskatoon, preparing to take the next step
Brandon’s Colten Worthington, a forward, recently agreed to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement with the Saskatoon Blades. He was selected by the Blades in the 11th round (233rd overall) in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.
“I was very excited to be apart of this great organization and I was really excited where it is because it isn’t to far from my hometown. I had just got home from school and was talking to my dad when my phone blew up and I had realized that I was drafted. It was a great feeling” Worthington told bdnmb.ca about his draft experience.
To date this season, he has registered 18 points in 25 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings U18 AAA club. If all goes according to plan, Worthington would like to suit up with Saskatoon as soon as they feel he is ready. “I would love to be playing in Saskatoon but with how strong they are with the last two draft years I may not be able to so hopefully I play a couple of games with them next year and then I’ll return back here to play u18 with the Wheat Kings.”
As Worthington embarks on the next chapter of his hockey journey, he understands what he needs to work on to take it to the next level. “I need to work on my first three steps and make sure that I am always ready. Because playing at the next level is a big step and it is a much faster pace game so for me to be in that position I would need to improve my foot speed and get my first three steps down.
