Public Health has advised the Brandon School Division of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in a 5/6 multi-age classroom at École New Era School. The Brandon School Division and École New Era School are working closely with public health officials and following their recommendations.

Be assured that Public Health investigations to identify individuals who may have been exposed begin within 24 hours of a confirmed laboratory test. Anyone identified as a close contact is contacted and provided instructions for self-isolation (quarantine). Testing may also be recommended.

Based on the public health investigation, this exposure was assessed to be very low risk. The individual attended school for a limited time while asymptomatic. Parents/Guardians of children who attended class with the case have been contacted by Public Health. At this time, no close contacts have been identified at École New Era School. No one is required to self-isolate from this exposure. The case was not acquired at school.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Brandon School Division is having École New Era School thoroughly deep cleaned over the weekend and will be ready for the students and staff on Monday.

The Brandon School Division along with all the schools in the Division will continue to follow the recommendations of Public Health during this pandemic.
