This year marks the 9th Annual Brandon Beer Tasting Festival, presented by the Sunset Rotary Club of Brandon. This is a well-established event showcasing over 100 types of beer. They have sold out for the past two years and tickets to this year's event are said to be moving very fast. The event will be held at the Victoria Inn on March 21, 2020. Proceeds for this event go to support the YWCA Westman Women's Shelter and Brandon and Area charities. Tickets are $30 - available at all Brandon Liquor Stores. The Human Condition Spring Comedy Tour makes a stop in Brandon, MB to support local charity the Brandon Humane Society After a very successful run last September The Human Condition Comedy Tour are doing it again! This coming March three comedians (Scott Belford, Adam Mac and Scott Porteous) will be touring in Western Canada to raise awareness and funds for various different local charities. Just announced* Nelson Mayer (who recently won 2020 Comedian of the North Contest) will be a special guest for this show. On March 12th (at The 40) the comedians will arrive in Brandon to support local charity the Brandon Humane Society. Parasite, the first-ever non-English-language film to win Best Picture, will be shown this weekend at the Evans Theatre in Brandon. The movie also won an Oscar for best director, original screenplay, and international feature. The Evans Theatre is located on the campus of Brandon University, in the George T. Richardson Building. Dakota Nation Winterfest is the largest Indigenous sport and cultural event of its kind all under one roof. The event is being held inside the Keystone Centre. Now in it’s 48th year the festival encompasses activities and events for all age groups including a square dance competition, talent show, wacipi, basketball, volleyball, and hockey. BRANDON, Manitoba – For the first time in league history, PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada will buck into Brandon, Manitoba, as the Touring Pro Division’s Mazergroup Chute Out invades Westoba Place at the Keystone Centre on Saturday, April 25. The Touring Pro Division regularly features Canada’s elite, alongside some of the league’s top international athletes, squaring off against the rankest bucking bulls from the nation. Fans will witness exhilarating 8-second rides and wrecks throughout the action-packed event as the PBR’s courageous riders face off against their 2,000-pound opponents. The newly announced event comes on the heels of one of the most fiercely contended national title races in league history as the world’s best battled it out to be crowned the 2019 PBR Canada Champion. While Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan) and Dakota Buttar (Kindersley, Saskatchewan) entered the season-culminating PBR Canada Finals ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the nation, within a slim 32.49 points of one another, a dominant performance by young gun Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York) allowed him to complete one of the most riveting come-from-behind surges in history. Going a perfect 4-for-4 to win the Canadian Finals, Swearingen, who entered the event No. 4, erased a 689.57-point gap to emerge the 2019 PBR Canada Champion by 450.42 points over runner-up Buttar. In the bull pen, the sport’s bovine athletes were also embattled in a feverish race to be crowned the 2019 PBR Canada Bull of the Year. Entering the event No. 1 in the nation with a 0.4-point lead, Homegrown from Coronation, Alberta’s Eno Bucking Bulls, was able to hold off a hard-bucking Happy Camper from Magrath, Alberta’s Two Bit Bucking Bulls to capture the season’s end honor by a slim 0.083 points. The bull riding action for the Mazergroup Chute Out begins at 7:00 p.m. CST on Saturday, April 25 at Westoba Place at the Keystone Centre. All riders will attempt one bull each in Round 1. The Top 10 will then advance to the championship round for one more out and a chance at the event title. In addition to competing for points towards the Canadian national standings, riders will also have the opportunity to earn world points in an effort to earn a berth onto the elite PBR Unleash The Beast.
