From airwaves to classrooms, Mike Lamb is leaving BOUNCE 96.1

n an unexpected yet inspiring career shift, a well-known radio DJ has traded the fast-paced world of live broadcasts for the rewarding role of a creative media teacher. This move reflects a deep passion for media and a desire to shape the next generation of content creators. Mike Lamb recently released a Facebook announcement saying he was leaving his morning show at BOUNCE 96.1 to pursue a full time job as an instructor at Assiniboine College. "I have been the morning show host for just shy of 10 years.  Started working mornings in 2015, and have been at the radio station since 2010.  I started working here as a board operator while I was in my second year at Assiniboine College. The stations were KX96 and 101 The Farm back then." Lamb told bdnmb.ca about his time on radio in Brandon. "I will miss my coworkers. The people are what makes a workplace tick, and I've had the pleasure of working with an amazing radio team.  I will miss connecting with people. At its core, I believe that this is what radio is all about. I have interacted with and met so many wonderful listeners, community members and business owners throughout the years. I will also miss the fun.  Radio can be an incredibly fun industry to work in and I've done my best to not take that for granted." Lamb said about what he miss most about the radio gig. For Lamb, there are a number of memories, or events, that stand out as he looks back on his radio career. " The Radiothon for the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba really stands out to me.  I chatted with so many people and families and made a lot of wonderful connections through this event.  It was really rewarding to see the outpouring of the community for this broadcast fundraiser." Other highlights include eating Poutine out of the Stanley Cup at Joe Beeverz when Joel Edmundson brought the trophy to Brandon in 2019, August long weekends spent at Rockin' The Fields Of Minnedosa, hosting the Wheat Kings broadcast on Bounce for a year, and finally interviewing Red Green. His last day at BOUNCE will be Friday, August 16th. He will be teaching multiple subjects and courses across a few different programs at Assiniboine College . Lamb will spend most of his time in the Centre for Creative Media teaching the radio courses! "I'm looking forward to working even closer with the college radio station. CJ 106 is a great local radio station and resource for the community, and I'm excited to spend more time with it." he stated about the move. "Fortunately, I have been working part time at the college for the past four years. Because of this, I feel as though I've already faced many of the challenges that come with teaching or starting a new job. There will certainly be new challenges and tasks to take on, but this makes the transition much easier for sure. " "I'd like to thank my chairperson at Assiniboine, Jana Sproule. Jana has been supporting me since my first day at the college, and has played a monumental role in my entire Assiniboine journey. She has put her faith in me as an instructor, and I truly have her to thank for this transition happening." When asked how his listeners have reacted to the announcement, Lamb has this to say "The listeners have been so incredible and kind. I have received an overwhelming amount of support, comments and personal messages. It means a lot." "Please support local media. It's so important to the strengthening and overall fabric of our community." added Lamb.
