New Brandon hotel holds ground breaking ceremony

Gambler First Nation has officially begun construction on a hotel and conference centre in Brandon, Manitoba. They held a  sod-turning ceremony on Tuesday and provided some additional details on the project. The hotel, located behind the Western Nations Nation’s gas station on 18th Street North, will feature 130-rooms and will be called the Tipi Hotel & Conference Center. In addition to the 130-rooms, the facility will also feature three large teepees out front for each of the lobby, restaurant, and conference centre. The lobby teepee will be 80 feet tall, while the teepees for both the restaurant and conference centre will each stand 60-feet. tall. Completion of the project is not expected until the summer of 2027.

Brandon Bits and Bites #10

Velvet Dip (820 Victoria Ave) recently celebrated their 60th anniversary.   A number of restaurants are for sale in Brandon including bar Burrito and Edo Japan. A retirement party was recently held for Trevor Peters & Debbie Nadon of T-Birds, The keys to the business were handed over to Todd Britton on June 14. Todd is also the owner of Uptown Alley in Winnipeg. The Bootlegger location inside the Shoppers Mall has officially transformed into a Warehouse One! Kim's Asian Restaurant at 42 McTavish Ave E is in the process of relocating to a new address at 650B 1st Street. No timetable as to when the new location will be open to serve the public.  

Dreams for Kids Massive Donation

We are so grateful to the team behind the CPKC Hockey Tournament for choosing Westman Dreams for Kids as the recipient of this year’s tournament proceeds! 🏒 This donation is one of the largest donations in Westman Dreams for Kids History! 💙 This marks the first time the event has been hosted in Brandon. We are truly thankful for the support, generosity, and community spirit shown by everyone involved with CPKC and enormous applause to the host committee! Mark Boguski and Brody Woodmass, of Brandon, will be competing at the 2025 Brick International Hockey tournament that takes in place in Edmonton each summer. The two forwards (2015 birth-year) have cracked the roster of the Manitoba Jr Ice and will face off against teams from Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Connecticut & more during the week long event (June 30 - July 6). Pro-wrestling returns to Brandon. Canadian Wrestling's Elite recently made an announcement that they would returning to Brandon on Sunday, August 19. The event will feature the Canadian Wrestling's Elite debut of WWE, TNA, & ROH Cruiserweight Legend Brian Kendrick! Additional information to follow in the coming weeks. Over the weekend, Hunter Oakden (Team Manitoba (Wheat City Golf Course) required a one hole playoff to capture the 2025 Golf Manitoba u15 championship over Owen Conrad (Team Manitoba / St. Charles).   Deloraine's Ashton Bell will have a new city to call home for the 2025-26 Professional Women's Hockey League season. She was selected by Vancouver with the first overall pick in the league's expansion draft on Monday. DING DING DING ? Her focus on skill development and tactical play has been a hallmark of her coaching." The Sportsplex Arena Upgrade is right on schedule, and they’re set to pour the concrete for the arena floor on Thursday, June 12, 2025
