On September 13th at 12:30AM police conducted a stop in front of a business in the 1200 block of Princess Avenue with a male who appeared to be disrobing after buying goods. He was belligerent and uncooperative. He was arrested and held in detention cells and will be released once sober with an Appearance Notice for court on November 18th, 2024. Charged with Resisting Arrest and ticketed for Disorderly Conduct at Licensed Premises and Unlawful Transportation of Liquor in a Vehicle.

On September 10th at 1:08PM police conducted a traffic stop on a taxi in the 800 block of 10th Street. The two passengers, males aged 19 and 22, were not wearing their seatbelts and had open liquor in the vehicle. A search resulted in finding a large knife. Both males were arrested for Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and issued tickets for the seatbelt and open liquor offences. The 19-year-old was also on a Release Order not to possess weapons and had a reside clause that he was breaching. The 19-year-old was held in detention cells for court in the morning on September 11th, 2024. The 22-year-old to be released once sober with a court date of October 31st, 2024.

On September 6th at 11:22AM health authorities reported to police that a male had been bear maced and had a gun pulled on him the previous night. Victim was a 39-year-old male. Video surveillance shows the victim outside smoking in the 100 block of 13th street when he was approached by four male suspects who pulled a sawed-off firearm, machete, and a canister of bear mace on him. They surrounded him and demanded his belongings. Once he did so one of the suspects discharged the cannister of bear mace striking the victim. Suspects then fled on foot. An 18-year-old male was identified as one of the suspects and he was arrested at his residence on September 9th, 2024. He was held in detention cells for court in the morning on September 10th, 2024. Another 18-year-old male was identified as co-accused. Police attended his residence on September 9th, 2024, where he had the victim’s belongings and a can of bear mace. The male was arrested and held in detention cells for court in the morning on September 10th, 2024.

Brandon’s first-ever minor injury clinic is set to open later this month at its new home on Sixth Street, Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara announced today. “This clinic is all about convenience and quick care for Brandon families,” said Asagwara. “It’s great news for parents when their kid needs stitches or a cast or anyone who needs to see a doctor for non-urgent care and doesn’t want to spend hours in a waiting room. Our government promised to create more of these clinics across the province and I’m pleased we will soon open our first one in Brandon.” The Brandon Minor Injury and Illness Clinic will be located on the main level of 144 Sixth St. in Brandon and operate seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Patients will be able to book appointments online with some appointments reserved for walk-in patients. “This new clinic will be a great alternative when you need care but do not require a visit to the emergency department,” said Treena Slate, CEO, Prairie Mountain Health. “We are proud of how our staff have pulled together and are working hard to have this clinic open and ready to deliver high-quality patient care and ease the demand on emergency departments.” The clinic will be staffed by physicians, nurse practitioners and other health-care professionals who will provide support for minor health concerns including minor injuries. Some examples include suspected fractures and sprains, rashes, fevers, sore throats or ears, abdominal pain, eye infections, colds and coughs. Staff will be able to further connect patients to additional services that may be needed, said Asagwara. The clinic aligns with provincial goals to expand primary care capacity within the region. “I’m so pleased to see that our government is moving forward with an expansion of the minor injury clinic model for Brandon, which will connect Brandonites with the care they need,” said Sport, Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister Glen Simard. “Today’s announcement shows that our government is making progress on our promise to fix health care across our province. Our government recognizes the task ahead, and we’re up to the job of delivering for Manitobans and the Westman region.” Brandon’s clinic is one of the first minor injury and illness clinics in the province alongside one operating on Corydon Avenue in Winnipeg and two more that are set to open in Winnipeg.
