At 12:45AM on September 3rd a 911 caller advised that a known to them 24-year-old male had shown up to their house with a stab wound. The male had been at the 000 block of 10th Street when he was attacked by two males with knives/machetes. The male escaped with a broken arm and cut to his arm. The attackers had stolen his bag with medication, ID, PS4 and cash. Police shortly after located an 18-year-old male matching the description of one of the accused, when members approached, he fled on foot. He was apprehended after a short foot chase and found to be in possession of the medication. Court date set for November 18th, 2024. Later in the day on September 3rd police identified the second suspect out front of the same location and a 22-year-old male was taken into custody. He was found to be wearing the same clothes as the previous night which had the victim’s blood on his shoes and clothing. He was lodged at BPS for court in the morning.

On March 30th it was reported a church was broke into with over $10,000 in music/sound equipment was stolen. DNA evidence linked a 34-year-old male to the crime. The male was arrested September 2nd at 10:55PM in the 1000 block of Lorne Avenue on these charges. He was lodged and will attend court in the morning on September 3rd, 2024.

The Manitoba government is investing $9.7 million to resurface 18th Street in Brandon, Premier Wab Kinew and Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor announced here today. “Our government is committed to keeping Manitoban communities safe and we recognize the importance of 18th Street to Brandon and the Westman region,” said Kinew. “Speeding up the reconstruction timeline to get shovels in the ground showcases our commitment to creating vibrant communities, ones where both residents and businesses have the infrastructure they need to prosper.” The project will reconstruct 18th Street (Provincial Trunk Highway 10) from Aberdeen Avenue to Rosser Avenue, and includes milling the existing pavement surface to mitigate deep potholes and replacing it with two layers of new bituminous pavement. The proposed work will tie into the existing geometry of the roadway and will not require any changes to the gutter system or curbs, the premier said, noting the project is expected to start next week and be completed in October. “Brandon’s 18th Street is a busy thoroughfare and is an important route for not only for the city but residents and businesses across Westman,” said Naylor. “Reconstruction work was originally scheduled to start in 2028-29, but because the road deteriorated quicker from this year’s spring thaw cycle and public concerns surrounding safety, we are speeding up work on this project.” This project supports Manitoba’s Multi-Year Infrastructure Investment Strategy, which outlines $4.1 billion in planned strategic investments in roads, highways, bridges, airports and flood protection over the next five years as Manitoba continues to invest in building the economy and fueling future growth. “We are thrilled to have partnered with the province to ensure the timely completion of essential work on 18th Street,” said Mayor Jeff Fawcett, City of Brandon. “This project will greatly enhance mobility for both the citizens of Brandon and our visitors, making it easier for everyone to navigate across our city. Assault On August 31st, a male was assaulted in the 1400 block of Lorne Ave resulting in minor injuries. The suspect fled the scene prior to Police arrival but was located the following day. A 44yr old Brandon man has subsequently been charged with assault and will appear in Court in November. Fraud Use of Debit Card On June 19th, Police received a fraud complaint where it was alleged that a male suspect fraudulently used the complainant’s bank card, after being given access to it, to purchase groceries on her behalf. The investigation revealed that over period of 8 months this male suspect used the card for personal purchases or cash withdrawals for a total of approximately $10,000. On September 1st, the 45yr old male suspect was located, charged and will appear in Court in November.
