Introducing Mexican Queen, a new food truck from the folks at Sabor Latino & the Mexican King

On the footsteps of bdnmb.ca's extremely successful Food Truck Warz event in Brandon in 2017, the food truck trend has exploded in the city with several new trucks entering the marketplace each summer. Last summer the family who own & operate Sabor Latino restaurant expanded their operation with the introduction of a food trailer--The Mexican King. Serving Brandon's best authentic Latin American cuisine, Mexican King was an instant hit with Brandon and area residents. This summer they are back at it once again with the addition of another food truck---Mexican Queen. The menu at Mexican Queen will include a variety of CREPAS, ice cream, special hot dogs, floats, piña coladas, and more. The Mexican Queen will join the Mexican King food truck in the parking lot of Canadian Tire and Tim Horton’s on 18th Street, starting Friday, April 30. Initially the trucks will be open Thursday to Sunday with a new schedule starting in June. May hours: Thursday to Saturday 11.30 to 8 pm. Sundays 12 to 5 pm. Suspect caught while attempting to break into business

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On April 19, 2021, police responded to a report of a male attempting to break into a business in the 2000 block of Park Ave shortly after 9:00 pm.  A business representative caught the 29-year-old male trying to force the door lock with pry bars.  Police arrested the male at the business.  He will appear in court on June 21, 2021 on charges of Possession of Break-in Instruments and Attempted Break and Enter.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On April 15, 2021, at approximately 1:30 pm, police responded to a report of an assault in which two individuals were sprayed with bear mace in the area of the 800 block of Pacific Ave.  The two victims were treated for the exposure to the chemical at BRHC. Police attempted to locate the suspect, but he fled from the area. The 22-year-old male suspect was located on April 19, 2021 while walking in the 300 block of 8th street shortly after 2:00 am.  He was under the influence of illicit drugs at the time of his arrest, contrary to prior release conditions. He was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today on charges of Assault with a Weapon X2 and Fail to Comply with Release Order.

City of Brandon Launches ‘4R’ Waste Ambassador Program

If you are an environmentally-minded individual with a keen interest in the 4 R’s of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink, the City of Brandon is looking to you to be part of its multi-year community ambassador pilot program aimed at waste diversion!  Thanks to funding provided by Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba Inc., the City of Brandon is pleased to launch the 4R Waste Ambassador Program, a three-year public education pilot project for which it is now actively recruiting volunteer ambassadors. The program will provide training and resources to volunteer community ambassadors, who will then be encouraged to seek out community events, schools, and service group functions (following Manitoba Public Health COVID-19 protocols) to help educate and inform on municipal waste diversion programs. Together with its ambassadors, the City of Brandon is looking to better educate residents on “what goes in what bin” to improve waste, recycling, and organic diversion rates in the community and to increase efficiencies at the Eastview Landfill.  City of Brandon Environmental Initiatives Coordinator Lindsay Hargraves says the program’s success will be rooted in the dedication and enthusiasm of its volunteer ambassadors and the cooperation of the wider community.  “We really see this as an opportunity for the entire community to embrace the 4R’s and to help educate our community on the many actions they can take which will collectively help the City of Brandon increase its waste diversion rates,” Hargreaves says. “The 4R Waste Ambassador Program will empower participants to educate their neighbours, classmates, church community, service groups and peers on the benefits that the 4R’s can have locally and globally!”   Hargreaves notes that ambassadors will be required to contribute at least 30 hours of volunteer time to the program each year and will be encouraged to seek out their own opportunities for public education. Calgary man charged with trafficking in fentanyl after traffic stop in Brandon

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 9:10 p.m. Saturday, police stopped a vehicle operated by a 29-year-old male from Calgary on the north service road area of the Trans Canada Highway. Officers observed controlled substances in plain view during the traffic stop and arrested the male. When searched incidental to arrest, the male was found to have in his possession a package containing a large amount of fentanyl. The male was held in BPS cells overnight, and will appear before a Justice today. He faces charges of trafficking in fentanyl, and possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.
