At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, police were called to a disturbance in the downtown area. Two people from Brandon met with a 37-year-old male suspect also from the city, who had posted a bike for sale on a social media site using a false name and account. That bike had been stolen from the two people’s yard earlier in the day. The suspect when contacted advised the couple that he had sold the bike, but had a bike carrier for sale and would meet them to sell the carrier. When the victims confronted the suspect about the stolen bike during the meet, he ran and was pursued by both of them. The suspect turned on the two people and produced an expandable baton, which he began swinging in their direction in an attempt to strike them. Police located the suspect nearby and took him into custody. The expandable baton was recovered and the suspect was released for court in Brandon in August. He faces a single charge of assault with a weapon.
