Multiple School divisions partner for remote learning for immunocompromised students

A number of school divisions in the Westman area (Brandon, Mountain View, Park West, Rolling River, Southwest Horizon and Swan Valley) have been collaborating to provide remote learning for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8, who are immunocompromised or who have immunocompromised family members in their household and have been medically advised not to attend school. The partnership will have school divisions provide staff members or financial resources, so that students who have been medically advised not to attend school will be able to participate in remote learning during this COVID-19 experience. This new partnership between the school divisions will be called the Westman Consortia. The School Divisions are currently working with their schools and communities to identify students and families who would receive remote learning. The schools will then be contacting these families next week to formalize how this remote learning plan will look. Our anticipated start date will be September 17 and 18 as we will have a staggered start approach. If parents in the Brandon School Division have any questions about this new arrangement, they are encouraged to contact their school principal. (BSD Media Release)

BSD: confirmed COVID-19 case at École New Era School

Public Health has advised the Brandon School Division of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in a 5/6 multi-age classroom at École New Era School. The Brandon School Division and École New Era School are working closely with public health officials and following their recommendations. Be assured that Public Health investigations to identify individuals who may have been exposed begin within 24 hours of a confirmed laboratory test. Anyone identified as a close contact is contacted and provided instructions for self-isolation (quarantine). Testing may also be recommended. Based on the public health investigation, this exposure was assessed to be very low risk. The individual attended school for a limited time while asymptomatic. Parents/Guardians of children who attended class with the case have been contacted by Public Health. At this time, no close contacts have been identified at École New Era School. No one is required to self-isolate from this exposure. The case was not acquired at school. Out of an abundance of caution, the Brandon School Division is having École New Era School thoroughly deep cleaned over the weekend and will be ready for the students and staff on Monday. The Brandon School Division along with all the schools in the Division will continue to follow the recommendations of Public Health during this pandemic. (Brandon School Division Media Release)
