Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 1:57pm, police responded to a vehicle vs pedestrian collision at the intersection of 18th Street and McTavish Ave.  A north bound vehicle struck an adult male pedestrian who was walking westbound through the pedestrian corridor.  The male was transported to the hospital in serious condition where he was held for observation.  His condition later improved and he was released from hospital.  The incident is still under investigation pending the report from the traffic analyst.

Brandon Police: Man arrested after fleeing multiple times

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release A 30 year old man from Austin was arrested on Monday morning for numerous offences after three incidents on the weekend. Around 1:24 am on August 9th, an officer stopped a vehicle travelling the wrong direction on Princess Ave. The male driver provided his identification and then drove off. The officer pursued the vehicle, however due to high speeds, the pursuit was cancelled on Rosser Ave. The owner of the vehicle was located who advised the male driver had taken the vehicle. He was on a court order to not communicate with the r/o as well. At 11:14 am on Sunday, the female owner of the vehicle called police to report the man had assaulted her and stolen the vehicle in the parking lot of the Brandon Shoppers Mall. After stealing the vehicle, the man drove through the parking lot erratically and the wrong way on 18th St south. He left the area and could not be located. At 9:40 pm, an officer noticed the suspect vehicle in a parking lot on Willowdale Crs. As the officer stopped his police cruiser, the driver sat up in the front seat, reversed the vehicle, striking the police cruiser and fled at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle was briefly pursued but due to high rate of speeds the pursuit was stopped.   Warrants for all three of these incidents were requested. On Monday morning, the Brandon RCMP were advised by a caller that the suspect was in a residence in Souris. He was arrested there by the RCMP and turned over to BPS. On Monday afternoon, he appeared in court and was released for a later court date. The charges include Flight from Police x 2, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle x 3 , Drive Prohibited x 3, Breach of Undertaking x 3, Assault (Domestic), Theft of Motor Vehicle, Take Motor Vehicle w/o Owners Consent.

Brandon Area Community Foundation Community Grant Application Now Open

Brandon, MB. – the Brandon Area Community Foundation (BACF) wishes to inform the public that community grant applications are now being accepted for the 2020 granting year. BACF have been providing community grants to organizations in Brandon and southwestern Manitoba since 1966. BACF awards grants to support a wide range of projects and programs, which include, but not limited to, the areas of arts, culture, community development, education, environment, recreation, seniors services, social services and youth programs. Grants are made to Canada Revenue Agency registered charities only, never directly to individuals or non-registered not for profit organizations. In 2019, nearly $618,000 in grants were distributed in our Westman area. “The Foundation’s objective is to serve the community of southwestern Manitoba and due to COVID-19, supporting our community through our granting process is more relevant than ever.” stated Laura Kempthorne, Executive Director of BACF. “I highly recommend that if anyone has any questions regarding their eligibility for funding, questions regarding their project or our grant application, please feel free to call me before you make a submission.” BACF is fortunate to have generous donors over the decades who have established funds with the Foundation. Man arrested for allegedly using stolen debit card to withdraw cash

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On July 18, police received a complaint that a debit card had been stolen and used on the same date when the accused withdrew a quantity of cash from the victim’s account.  The suspect was known to the victim and identified to police.  On Saturday afternoon, the accused, a 27-year-old male from Brandon, was located, arrested for fraud under $5000.00 and released for court in November.

Female charged with possession of meth for trafficking

Source: Brandon Police service Media Release At approx. 11:07 PM Thursday, police conducted a taffic stop in the 200 block of 18th St. During the stop a 37 year old female, who was a passenger of the vehicle was found in possession of 8.5 grams of meth packaged for sale as well as a small amount of cash.  The meth and cash were seized and the female was charged with possession of meth for trafficking as well as possession of proceeds of crime (cash).  She was released with a court date of October 29.
