On Friday afternoon, Brandon Fire and Emergency Services and Blue Hills RCMP responded to a single vehicle rollover east of Brandon on Veterans Way. A white car crashed into the ditch just east of the Veterans Way and Highway 110 junction. RCMP members were seen pulling multiple bottles of alcohol from the overturned vehicle. Circumstances of the crash remain unclear.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Shortly before midnight on Thursday, a female victim reported she was stabbed outside of a downtown hotel. The victim returned home and realized she was stabbed twice in the abdomen. She was transported to BRHC for treatment of the injuries which do not appear life threatening. The investigating officer viewed surveillance video which shows the suspect stabbing the victim twice in the parking lot of the hotel. The suspect has been identified and a warrant for her will be issued on Friday.

Brandon, MB – City of Brandon Parks & Recreation Services crews will resume mosquito fogging at 10 p.m. tonight (Friday, July 17th) in pockets across the City that were unable to be completed during last night’s fogging activity. While crews were out fogging from 9 p.m. on Thursday to 6 a.m. on Friday, equipment and mechanical issues resulted in portions of neighbourhoods across the City not being fogged. At this time, Parks and Recreation Services can confirm the following areas were successfully fogged: Ø  Areas west of First Street between Kirkcaldy Drive and Victoria Avenue; Ø  All areas east of First Street, south of Victoria Avenue; Ø  All areas south of Richmond Avenue between First Street and 26th Street. Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight (Friday, July 17th), the City’s four fogging trucks will be dispatched to the areas of the City that have not yet been fogged, with completion anticipated by no later than 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 18th. Fogging will NOT be undertaken if it is raining, if the temperature dips below 13 degrees Celsius, or if the wind speed is in excess of 16 kilometres/hour. In the event fogging is postponed again due to weather conditions, the public will be notified and fogging activity will be re-scheduled to the next suitable evening. The City of Brandon would like to extend its sincere thanks to residents for their continued patience as crews work this evening to complete this fogging program. The insecticide to be used in this fogging program is DeltaGard 20EW. As crews are not able to announce in advance which areas of the City the trucks be starting in or where fogging trucks may be at any given time throughout the night, the City of Brandon would ask for as much cooperation from the public in areas that have not yet been fogged to ensure that they limit their activity outdoors between 9 a.m. this evening and 6 a.m. tomorrow morning and follow the below recommendations to minimize exposure during a fogging program: Whenever possible, stay indoors during and immediately after spraying; Close all windows and doors. Turn off air conditioning units and close vents to circulate indoor air, before the spraying begins; Bring laundry, toys and pets indoors before the spraying occurs; Cover swimming pool surfaces when possible; Wash homegrown fruit and vegetables with water before cooking or eating them; Rinse play equipment with water after the spraying is finished. A total of 33 approved buffer zones have been approved for this week’s fogging program. Beyond this week’s fogging efforts, City of Brandon Parks & Recreation Services will double its larviciding efforts and will now have a total of four staff monitoring standing areas of water across the City and applying larvicide where necessary for the remainder of the summer season. Residents can also help reduce the impact of this year’s mosquito populations. Simple things like dumping out any containers of standing water, draining any eavestroughing, covering rain water collection containers; filling in any low-lying areas, or treating problem areas with biological larvicide can minimize the amount of mosquitoes. The annoyance of mosquitoes can also greatly be reduced by using repellants, wearing light-coloured clothing, limiting your time outside between the hours of dusk and dawn and using screened-in areas. Source:Brandon Police Service Media Release On Tuesday afternoon, Police received a report that an employee of a business in the 1000 Block of 10th Street chased down and apprehended a female shoplifter. Police located both the employee and suspect in the 1100 Block of 9th Street where the suspect was taken into Police custody. Investigation determined that the suspect stole merchandise from the store before fleeing and being caught by the employee. The 18 year old female suspect was highly intoxicated and lodged at the Police Service after being arrested for Theft Under $5000. She was released once sober and is scheduled to appear in Court in September.

Brandon, MB – City of Brandon Parks & Recreation Services will move forward with an overnight fogging program for nuisance mosquitoes on Wednesday, July 15th and Thursday, July, 16th, 2020. Mosquito trap counts from this past weekend exceeded the established thresholds for proceeding with adult mosquito control, which can be found on the City of Brandon website at https://www.brandon.ca/mosquito-abatement/mosquito-abatement-program. Residents will want to note that the City of Brandon uses different traps for its nuisance mosquito control program than those used by the City of Winnipeg; therefore, trap count thresholds which trigger fogging activity vary greatly between the two cities. Fogging will proceed overnight on Wednesday, July 15th and Thursday, July 16th, beginning after 10 p.m. each evening - AS LONG AS weather conditions are suitable to proceed. It is very important for the public to note that fogging will NOT be undertaken if it is raining, if the temperature dips below 15 degrees Celsius, or if the wind speed is in excess of 16 kilometres/hour. In the event fogging is postponed due to weather conditions, the public will be notified and fogging activity will be re-scheduled to the next suitable evening. In terms of the fogging schedule, all areas north of Victoria Avenue (from Victoria Avenue to Sandison Road at the Brandon Municipal Airport and from 66th Street to 49th Street East) will be fogged on Wednesday, July 15th, beginning at approximately 10 p.m. All areas south of Victoria Avenue (from Victoria Avenue to 2 miles south of Patricia Avenue and from 66th Street to 49th Street East) will then be fogged on Thursday, July 16th, beginning at approximately 10 p.m. The insecticide to be used in this fogging program is DeltaGard 20EW. This product is approved for use by Health Canada and is a lower-risk product when compared to the product used in past years’ City of Brandon fogging program. The exposure to bees, birds, mammals, fish and plants is expected to be minimal, given the reduced application rate, timing of application, and the minimal deposits in soil, water and plants that are anticipated from this application.
