Brandon, MB – City of Brandon Parks & Recreation Services is very pleased to be able to announce initial details of a modified outdoor water recreation program at the community’s spray parks/paddling pools and outdoor pool this summer. Parks & Recreation Services management and staff have been working diligently over the past number of weeks to create a program delivery model for its five spray parks and one outdoor pool that responsibly adheres to the Manitoba Government’s Restoring Safe Services Together plan for COVID-19 recovery. Pending final approval by Manitoba Health officials, all five of Brandon’s spray parks locations will open for summer operation on Monday, June 29th, while an opening date for Kinsmen Pool in Rideau Park is anticipated for early July. Spray parks will operate daily from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. through June and July, and then daily from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. through to the end of August. Kinsmen Pool will operate daily through July and August from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A full list of spray park locations and 2020 Kinsmen Pool rates can be found at https://www.brandon.ca/summer-recreation/spray-parks-paddle-pools. Spray parks will be accessible to the public during operating hours at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Families will want to take note that a number of COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place at all spray park locations, including reduced capacity within the spray park pad itself and identified queueing/entry/exit points. City of Brandon staff will be providing active supervision on-site to ensure adherence to these safety protocols, and signage will be installed at all sites and at washroom buildings to inform the public about these COVID-19-related guidelines and restrictions. Parents and guardians should also note that Brandon’s spray park equipment and pool facility will not receive any extra sanitizing attention during the season’s operations. Emergency crews were called to the top of Grand Valley Sunday night for reports of a single-vehicle rollover. Whitehead Fire Department, Brandon EMS and Blue Hills RCMP responded to Highway 1 and Road 115W for the rollover. It appeared that a white car left the road and rolled at least once. Skid marks could be seen on the westbound side of Highway 1 leaving the roadway and leading directly to where the car eventually stopped. One person was seen being loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On Sunday morning at approximately 3:50 A.M., a homeowner from a North Hill residence reported that her husband just caught a male who had broken into their garage. Police attended and the suspect kicked one of the Officers as he was being taken into custody. The Police Officer was not injured. Continued investigation determined that the suspect had actually broken into the garage earlier in the night stealing two bicycles, a lap top computer and a bar fridge. The suspect hid some items nearby while returning others to his residence. Once at his residence, the suspect realized that he lost his keys and could not gain entrance to his apartment building. The suspect used a rock to smash the front glass door of the complex but still did not have keys to access his apartment. The suspect then returned to the garage that he broke into earlier in search of his lost keys and at this time was apprehended by the homeowner.  The suspect was intoxicated and in breach of two conditions of an Undertaking. The 20 year old male from Brandon was arrested for Break, Enter and Theft, Fail to comply with Undertaking X2, Mischief to Property Under $5000 and Assault Peace Officer. The suspect was lodged at the Police Service and will be released when sober with a Court date in September.

(City of Brandon Public Notice) Brandon, MB – In accordance with City of Brandon Traffic By-law No.5463, the City of Brandon’s Legislative Services Office is now accepting residential parking permit applications from individuals who reside and park on streets where specific parking regulations exist. There is no cost to obtain an annual residential parking permit, but in order to do so, an individual must provide proof of vehicle registration AND proof of residence at which said vehicle is to be parked. If the permit applicant is not the registered owner of the vehicle and/or the owner of the property at which they reside, they will need written permission from the vehicle owner and/or property owner before obtaining a permit. Permits come in the form of stickers, which are to be affixed to the inside of the registered vehicle’s windshield in such a way that it can be clearly seen by applicable parking authorities. Individuals seeking a 2020-2021 residential parking permit may email parking@brandon.ca and attach all applicable documents with their request. Once the application is approved by the City of Brandon’s By-law Compliance Clerk, a sticker permit will be mailed out to the resident at no charge. To make an application in person, individuals may also bring all applicable documents to the Parking/Licensing/Permits Office on the Main Floor of Brandon City Hall (410-9th Street). Once the application is approved, a sticker permit will be mailed out to the resident. Individuals attending to Brandon City Hall are asked to respect all COVID-19 safety protocols that have been put in place at the facility, including: Entering the building via the Louise Avenue (north-facing) door and exiting via the 9th Street (southwest-facing) door; Respecting the mandatory handwashing/sanitizing procedure prior to proceeding to the service counter; Respecting the established system of arrows, safe physical distancing markers and stanchions installed in the foyer of City Hall, which currently has a maximum capacity of 33 persons at any one time. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 5:00 PM Wednesday, members conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle being driven by a local female known to them.  During the stop a passenger of the vehicle was observed to have drug paraphernalia in her possession.  A search resulted in the seizure of 7 grams of Meth and $870 in cash.  The 42-year-old Brandon female is charged with possession of meth for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.  She will appear in court on August 13th.
