Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On Sunday morning at approximately 3:50 A.M., a homeowner from a North Hill residence reported that her husband just caught a male who had broken into their garage. Police attended and the suspect kicked one of the Officers as he was being taken into custody. The Police Officer was not injured. Continued investigation determined that the suspect had actually broken into the garage earlier in the night stealing two bicycles, a lap top computer and a bar fridge. The suspect hid some items nearby while returning others to his residence. Once at his residence, the suspect realized that he lost his keys and could not gain entrance to his apartment building. The suspect used a rock to smash the front glass door of the complex but still did not have keys to access his apartment. The suspect then returned to the garage that he broke into earlier in search of his lost keys and at this time was apprehended by the homeowner.  The suspect was intoxicated and in breach of two conditions of an Undertaking. The 20 year old male from Brandon was arrested for Break, Enter and Theft, Fail to comply with Undertaking X2, Mischief to Property Under $5000 and Assault Peace Officer. The suspect was lodged at the Police Service and will be released when sober with a Court date in September.

(City of Brandon Public Notice) Brandon, MB – In accordance with City of Brandon Traffic By-law No.5463, the City of Brandon’s Legislative Services Office is now accepting residential parking permit applications from individuals who reside and park on streets where specific parking regulations exist. There is no cost to obtain an annual residential parking permit, but in order to do so, an individual must provide proof of vehicle registration AND proof of residence at which said vehicle is to be parked. If the permit applicant is not the registered owner of the vehicle and/or the owner of the property at which they reside, they will need written permission from the vehicle owner and/or property owner before obtaining a permit. Permits come in the form of stickers, which are to be affixed to the inside of the registered vehicle’s windshield in such a way that it can be clearly seen by applicable parking authorities. Individuals seeking a 2020-2021 residential parking permit may email parking@brandon.ca and attach all applicable documents with their request. Once the application is approved by the City of Brandon’s By-law Compliance Clerk, a sticker permit will be mailed out to the resident at no charge. To make an application in person, individuals may also bring all applicable documents to the Parking/Licensing/Permits Office on the Main Floor of Brandon City Hall (410-9th Street). Once the application is approved, a sticker permit will be mailed out to the resident. Individuals attending to Brandon City Hall are asked to respect all COVID-19 safety protocols that have been put in place at the facility, including: Entering the building via the Louise Avenue (north-facing) door and exiting via the 9th Street (southwest-facing) door; Respecting the mandatory handwashing/sanitizing procedure prior to proceeding to the service counter; Respecting the established system of arrows, safe physical distancing markers and stanchions installed in the foyer of City Hall, which currently has a maximum capacity of 33 persons at any one time. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 5:00 PM Wednesday, members conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle being driven by a local female known to them.  During the stop a passenger of the vehicle was observed to have drug paraphernalia in her possession.  A search resulted in the seizure of 7 grams of Meth and $870 in cash.  The 42-year-old Brandon female is charged with possession of meth for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.  She will appear in court on August 13th.

TARS will be taking to the airwaves in Brandon and area June 18 for the Critical Care on the Air Radiothon – Westman. Broadcasting on 96.1 Bob FM and Pure Country 101, the radiothon will feature stories from STARS’ crew members, allies, and our Very Important Patients. The event will begin at 6 a.m. and run until 6 p.m. across both Brandon stations. “This will be our first radiothon in Western Manitoba and we couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with the team at BOB and Pure Country,” said Lori Derksen, STARS. Development officer “We look forward to sharing the incredible stories of our allies, patients and STARS team members with Brandon and area residents.” Colleen Mayer, STARS Director of Development, Manitoba, noted that roughly half of all Western Canadians live in rural areas where emergency ground transportation isn’t always fast enough and each year hundreds of Manitobans rely on STARS for advanced care and direct transport to hospital. “With 760 missions in our last fiscal year, which was a new record for our base, we know there continues to be a need for the services STARS provides in Manitoba,” Mayer said. “The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has forced the postponement or cancellation of the events we rely on for funding, which has created significant challenges for our organization. With that, the money raised during the radiothon, is more important than ever.” Mayer added every dollar raised during the event will stay in Manitoba and go towards STARS mission of saving lives. “It helps purchase personal protective equipment, puts fuel in the helicopter and provides our team with the best medical equipment available. With the green light for Manitobans to travel safely between communities throughout the province and the reopening of parks, campgrounds, restaurants, museums and other attractions, Manitobans are in a great position to rediscover what they love about the province while supporting the local economy. “Manitoba’s experiences, whether they are wild, rural or urban, remind us that home is where the heart is,” said Travel Manitoba President and CEO, Colin Ferguson. “We are encouraging locals to show Manitoba some love this summer by safely exploring new – and returning to favourite – destinations around the province.” As part of the campaign, partly funded through a partnership with Destination Canada, Travel Manitoba is launching a contest that asks how locals are showing Manitoba some love.
