Have your Say on the City of Brandon 2020 Municipal Budget

Brandon, MB – As Brandon City Council prepares to deliberate the proposed 2020 municipal budget, the community is invited to provide its feedback on the draft financial plan at a community forum on the evening of Wednesday, January 15th, 2020, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Main Foyer of Brandon City Hall, 410-9th Street. The evening forum will include a brief overview of the proposed budget led by City Administration, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session led by members of Brandon City Council. Mayor and Councillors will be asking for public feedback on the proposed budget and on where they would like Council to focus its future spending priorities. The evening forum will be streamed live via the City of Brandon YouTube channel for the benefit of residents unable to attend, who will also have the opportunity to submit questions for answer by City Council or Administration during the forum via the YouTube live stream. Questions for City Council or City Administration before or during the forum can also be submitted via email at budget@brandon.ca, or residents may also contact members of City Council directly at any time during the municipal budget process to share their thoughts on the proposed spending plan. Prior to Council’s deliberations, the proposed 2020 budget is representative of a 2.97% average municipal tax increase. All proposed budget documents can be viewed on the City of Brandon website at https://www.brandon.ca/budget/proposed-2020-budget. Brandon City Council will deliberate the 2020 proposed budget on Friday, January 31st and Saturday, February 1st. Deliberations will be held in the City of Brandon Council Chamber on the 2nd floor of Brandon City Hall and are open to the public and media to observe. Brandon woman arrested in connection with alleged theft at north end retailer

Source:Brandon Police Service Media Release On Saturday afternoon, police attended a theft at a north end retailer. The 38-year-old Brandon female was arrested for the theft of approximately $50 worth of merchandise from the store and also found to have a warrant for theft from Winnipeg. The female had approximately $180 worth of merchandise stolen earlier in the day from a different store and was the suspect in a third theft earlier in December. She was released from custody and will appear in court in February.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On January 2, 2020, police responded to a report of a suspicious individual in a back yard in the area of Viceroy Cr. at approximately 9:00 am. The visitor was corralled north toward the river by police and animal control officers where we hope he finds the life he’s looking for.

Two stolen vehicles recovered

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On December 30, 2019, police received a report of the theft of a vehicle from the 1400 block of 22nd street. The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between December 24, 2019 and the time of report while the owner was away from home. The vehicle was discovered in a ditch in the 5000 block of Richmond Ave on December 28, 2019, before it was reported stolen. It has since been towed for further forensic examination. On December 30, 2019, police learned that the stolen 2001, grey, Oldsmobile Alero was located on Strathcona Street in Winnipeg. It has also been towed for further forensic examination. Police continue to investigate the theft of these two vehicles. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Brandon Police Service.

Suspect charged following theft at local MLCC store

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Early Saturday evening, police attended a theft from a local MLCC store. The suspect was recognized by staff members as being involved in a number of recent thefts from the same location. The 17-year-old male was located at a residence on Victoria Avenue and arrested without incident. He is charged with three counts of theft under with several other charges pending and will appear in court in the morning.
