Chase the Ace lottery in Brandon draws big crowds early

It is a bingo players dream tonight at the Southwest Region Métis Federation on 6th street. One lucky person will win approximately $15,000 tax free tonight as part of their Chase the Ace contest. The Ace is Spades is the final card remaining and one person out of the 250 that will be allowed into the building will have their chance at this prize. Leah LaPlante, Vice President of the Southwest Region Métis Federation, said history will he made tonight as someone is guaranteed to take the prize home. In April of last year, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 19 in The Pas last had a prize pot over $1 million dollars but this will be the largest prize to date for the Southwest Region Métis Federation. The previous largest prize was just over $10,000. People started to line up today at 6:30 am according to Métis Federation staff and without a doubt they will be sold out tonight. Brandon male facing animal cruelty charge after allegedly kicking stranger’s dog

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On September 24, 2019, police received a report of an incident, which occurred near the 100 block of 26th street n. at approximately 7:30 pm. A family was playing with their dog, when they were approached by a male suspect who was not known to them. The male threatened them while pointing a can of bear mace at them. He then proceeded to kick their dog. They were able to capture the incident on video. The suspect was located and arrested on October 7, 2019 after 2:00 pm. The 21-year-old male will appear in court on December 2, 2019 on charges of Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous, Possess Prohibited Weapon, and Cruelty to Animals. The suspect’s intoxication level at the time of the incident is believed to have played a factor in his actions.

Woman allegedly spits in officer’s face

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On October 6, 2019, after 9:00 pm, police responded to a report of an intoxicated female who was screaming and yelling, and being aggressive towards employees at a business in the 1100 block of 18th street. When police arrived, she spit in the face of one of the officers. She was arrested, and transported to Brandon Correctional Centre. The 25-year-old female will appear in court today on a charge of Assault PO and she will receive a fine for Disorderly in a Licensed Premise under the Liquor Gaming, Cannabis Control Ac

Police arrest man on warrant, find several knives & small baggies containing crystal meth

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 7:40 p.m. Saturday, a male known to police to be wanted on several warrants of arrest was observed by officers walking south in the 500 block of 10th Street across the street from the BPS office, while pushing a bike beside him. Officers approached the 37-year-old Brandon male, who threw the bike towards police and ran from them but was quickly apprehended and arrested. A search subsequent to arrest found the male to be in possession of several knives and pocket weigh scales, two cell phones, credit cards that did not belong to him, and multiple small baggies containing crystal meth. The male will appear in court today after being detained overnight Saturday, and is facing charges of possession of meth for the purpose of trafficking, breach of undertaking, possession of stolen credit cards, resist arrest, possession of property obtained by crime, and three counts of possession of a dangerous weapon. He will also appear on the original arrest warrants held for him, which include charges of breach of probation and possession of property obtained by crime.

Dakota Nation Winterfest 2020, a combination of cultural and aboriginal sports

Sioux Valley Dakota Nation will be holding their annual “Dakota Nation Winterfest” for four days inside the Keystone Centre starting January 30, 2020. The event is a long standing tradition in Western Manitoba and is a combination of cultural and aboriginal sports. Now in it's 48th year the festival encompasses activities and events for all age groups including a square dance competition, talent show, wacipi, basketball, volleyball and moccasin games. One of the more popular events each year is the adult and minor hockey tournaments drawing teams from all over Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. The men's hockey tournament is especially popular and brings in players with WHL and Jr. A hockey experience.
