Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Shortly after 6:00 pm, a male attended to a restaurant downtown asking the staff for assistance as he had just been assaulted by a male. While he was in the restaurant seeking help, the suspect came in and punched him again, then left. The victim did not require medical attention. Police received a separate call of a male who was passed out in a downtown park at approximately 7:30 pm. This male turned out to be the subject of the assault complaint. He was lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre due to his intoxication level. He will appear in court on August 26, 2019.

Day Trippin, Reston’s man-made lake is a hidden gem

The man-made lake in Reston, MB officially opened on June 15. The lake was Phase 2 of the Recreation Development Area for the  RM of Pipestone. Funding from the RM of Pipestone Council ($250,000) and from the Province of Manitoba Community Places Program ($50,000) was used to finance the project. It is located adjacent to the Reston campground, golf course and spray park. Many features have been built into the lake including a sand bottom, decorative fountain, and a large sand beach.

Brandon police investigating multiple vehicle fires

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Between Saturday, June 22 and Sunday June 23, 2019, two separate vehicles were discovered to have interior damage in the form of charred materials and smoke damage. There was no damage to the vehicles exteriors. Both vehicles were parked in the 700 block of McDiarmid drive. It is unknown exactly when the damage occurred, as both vehicles were discovered after the fact, and one of them was not discovered until Monday. It is also unknown exactly what caused the damage. Both vehicles were towed for further investigation. A third vehicle fire occurred in the 1000 block of Russell Street between 2:00 am and 2:30 am on Monday morning. A witness observed a suspect start the fire in the truck cab before taking off. The witness was then able to extinguish the fire. In this incident, the suspect started the fire by lighting a can of gas. This vehicle was also towed for further investigation. It is unknown if these vehicle fires are related. Bear spray attack leads to charges for Brandon youth

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release On June 16, 2019 at approximately 9:30 pm, a suspect sprayed a male youth with bear mace while downtown. He fled the area on a scooter prior to police arriving at the scene. BFES treated the male at the scene. Initial reports indicated the suspect also chased several other youth with bear mace, while in the downtown area as early as 5:45 pm that day. The investigation has identified a suspect, a male youth, who was located and arrested Sunday evening. He will appear in court on July 23, 2019 on charges of Assault with a Weapon and Possess Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

Pair charged with Possession of Meth for Trafficking after Brandon traffic stop

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release Just before midnight Saturday, police initiated a traffic stop in the east end of Brandon as the license plates displayed on the vehicle were inactive. The officer approached the vehicle after it pulled over, at which time the operator sped away from the traffic stop. Police followed the vehicle in the east end of Brandon for approximately five blocks during which time the suspect vehicle never exceeded speeds of 80 kmh. The suspect vehicle then pulled over and the female driver fled on foot, while the male passenger was apprehended outside the vehicle. The female was tracked by an on duty canine unit and located. Located during the arrest and vehicle search was a mixture of various controlled substances including 9 ounces of crystal meth as well as Oxycodone, Tylenol 3, and Gabapentin. A 24 year old Brandon female is facing charges of flight from police, obstruction of a police officer, and possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking. At 29 year old male of no fixed address is facing charges of possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking. Both were lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre and will be remanded this morning.
