On Friday evening at 10:54 p.m. a vehicle was observed travelling west bound on Pacific Avenue at 11thStreet at a high rate of speed. The vehicle proceeded north off of Pacific Avenue onto 18th Street. Due to the excessive speed, officers were only able to get close enough to the vehicle after it had turned off of 18th Street onto the gravel portion of the river dyke along the south bank. The vehicle left the gravel roadway and became stuck in the soggy conditions in the area north of the 600 block of Parker Boulevard. The driver who was the lone occupant fled, and a canine unit was deployed. The police service dog and handler located the driver hiding in the area, and he was taken into custody without the dog having to make an apprehension. He was taken to the Brandon Police Service office where he provided breathalyzer samples. A 41 year old male from Erickson, Manitoba, is charged with Impaired Driving, Driving over the legal blood/alcohol limit, Prohibited Driving, and Take a Motor Vehicle without the Owners Consent. He was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Institute and will be remanded this morning.
