Manitoba Hydro is reporting, via their Twitter page, that they are currently investigating a reported natural gas leak at the corner of Brandon Ave & 22nd St.  Brandon Police and Brandon Fire & Emergency Services are also reported to be on scene.  Traffic is blocked in all directions and motorists are being advised to choose alternate routes.

Man arrested after driving the wrong direction on a one way street

Source:  Brandon Police Service Media Release At approx. 4:40 this morning Officers observed a 2007 Toyota Corolla travelling the wrong direction on a one way street near the 1200 block of Princess Ave.  The vehicle was stopped in the 200 block of 12th St. and the driver was identified.  The 24 year old Brandon man was found to be prohibited from driving in Canada and he was therefore arrested.  A search incident to arrest resulted in the discovery that he was carrying a can of pepper spray in his pocket. Further queries revealed he is the subject of a weapon prohibition order. The accused has since been released on a promise to appear in court on April 8th 2019.  His charges include, Prohibited Driving, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous, and Possession of a Weapon contrary to a Prohibition Order.

Stolen vehicle crashes following police pursuit, driver flees scene

Source:  Brandon Police Service Media Release On February 7th, 2019 at 8:23 pm police observed a motor vehicle in the 500 blk of Rosser Avenue East. As it turned out the car was stolen from Winnipeg. Police attempted to stop the car but it sped off and a pursuit began. Police called off the pursuit a short time later giving consideration to the street conditions. A few minutes later the car was observed in the 2200 blk of Rosser Avenue after the vehicle became involved in a collision with a parked vehicle. The driver fled the scene but a 40 year old female passenger from Winnipeg was still in the vehicle upon police arrival and was arrested without incident. The accused was held in custody and will appear in Brandon Court on February 8th, 2019. Police are still looking for the driver of the vehicle and charges are pending.

Rural bus cancellation Friday

Brandon School Division buses will not be operating outside the city of Brandon for Friday February 8th all day due to excessive forecast low temperatures. All Brandon School Division Schools will be open. Buses will be running within the city of Brandon. Attendance at schools is at parental discretion. Please Call your school if you are not going to be attending. Please exercise due caution.

Brandon man arrested after allegedly uploading child pornography to social media

Source:  Brandon Police Service Media Release On Tuesday morning at approximately 09:30am, Brandon Service Police and RCMP Ice members executed a search warrant at a north end residence in Brandon. Between July 05th and July 17th 2018, a male had uploaded child pornography to his social media account. The account was suspended and information forwarded to Brandon Police Service. The search revealed further child pornography on some of his electronic devices. A 43yr old Brandon man was arrested and released to appear in Court on April 04th.
