Manitoba ORFF Chapter Children’s Day 2018

This week, grade five students and their music teachers from the Westman and Parkland regions and into Saskatchewan will come together for a day of creative music making at Orff Children’s Day 2018. This fun-filled and musically enriching event will take place at the School of Music at Brandon University from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Children’s Day, sponsored by the Manitoba Orff Chapter, will feature five excellent clinicians. Under the leadership of these experts, students will take part in various workshops integrating choral singing, recorder, movement, and ensemble playing on drums and Orff instruments. The chosen theme is "Back to the Future – An Intergalactic Exploration”. The day's activities will culminate in a sharing session presented by all participating students from 3:00-3:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Students were selected to represent their individual schools at this fantastic event. Together with their music teachers, they look forward to taking part in exciting new musical experiences to bring back to their peers.

Man arrested for allegedly driving drunk with 2 kids in the vehicle

Brandon Police Service Media Release At approximately 6:05 p.m., Police conducted a traffic stop in the 400 Block of 6th Street on a vehicle with no license plates and 5 occupants. The male driver of the vehicle displayed signs of being impaired and was transported to the Police Service where breath samples obtained were in excess of double the legal limit. The 23-year-old man was arrested for Impaired Driving and Drive Over 80 mg%. He was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Center and is scheduled to appear in Court on Tuesday. An intoxicated 18-year-old male passenger in the vehicle was issued a ticket for having open liquor in a vehicle. He was released from Police custody. An intoxicated 24-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was arrested for Breach of the Peace and lodged at the Correctional Center. Her two children, ages 8 and 2 were also passengers in the vehicle and were turned over to Child and Family Services as there was no sober responsible adult available to care for them.

BPS respond to a handful of assaults Sunday

Brandon Police Service Media Release Assault Causing Bodily Harm: On April 20th 2018, Police received information that a female was punched in the face by her boyfriend resulting in a broken nose. When officers responded, the suspect fled prior to arrival however was located on Sunday afternoon. The 21-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Assault Causing Bodily Harm, he was released and scheduled to attend Court in May. The female victim received medical treatment for injuries sustained and has been released from hospital. Assault: A 38-year-old female from Brandon was arrested on Sunday for two incidents of Assault. On April 20th, the ex common law husband of the female suspect reported that the suspect punched him in the face and investigation revealed that the suspect also scratched her 18-year-old son in the face. Medical attention was not required for either victim and the suspect was released to appear in Court in May. At approximately 9:30 a.m., Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence on Rideau Street. Investigators learned that a male bit his girlfriend on the chin and the 23-year-old man was arrested for Assault. The man was later released from Police custody and is scheduled to appear in Court in May. The female victim did not receive physical injuries requiring medical attention because of the assault. A 39-year-old man from Brandon was arrested for Assault yesterday afternoon as a result of hitting the arm of a male and causing a cell phone to fall out of the victims hand. This incident is escalation of an ongoing dispute between the two men who are known to each other. The suspect is scheduled to appear in Court in June and the male victim was not physically injured because of the assault.

Annual pet licence a requirement for cats and dogs in Brandon

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon’s Finance Department wishes to remind all residents that, as per City bylaw, dogs and cats kept as pets within the City of Brandon must be accompanied by a licence. City of Brandon Animal Control By-Law No. 5900 states that all such animals – whether they are considered to be indoor pets or not –  must by accompanied by a valid licence authorized by the City of Brandon, which must be renewed on an annual basis. The Brandon Police Service’s Animal Control officers do patrol the City and local dog parks and can request to see a pet’s licence at any time. As per the City of Brandon 2018 Fee Schedule, the fine for an unlicensed cat or dog is $59.50. Cat and dog owners are also cautioned that if their unlicensed cat or dog is ever apprehended by Brandon Police Service Animal Control officers, they will be subject to a fine. In addition, a licence must be purchased for an apprehended animal prior to it being returned to the owner’s possession, along with additional impound fees. Pet licences can be easily obtained through the Finance Department at Brandon City Hall. As per the 2018 Fee Schedule, the cost to register a spayed/neutered cat or dog is $20, while the cost to register an unspayed/unneutered cat or dog is $56. Proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination and spay/neuter must be presented prior to the issuance of a licence.
