On January 25th, 2024, members of the Brandon Police Service and Royal Canadian Mounted Police Traffic Services conducted a Joint Forces Traffic Safety and Enforcement Initiative on the Trans-Canada Highway in and around the City of Brandon. At approximately 11:30 a.m., members from BPS and RCMP conducted a vehicle stop approximately five kilometres west of Brandon on a Manitoba licensed vehicle for a traffic violation. Upon further investigation, both subjects were arrested under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a bag containing approximately nine kilograms of Fentanyl. The street value of this drug is estimated at $1.1 million dollars. A 27-year-old male and 23-year-old female have been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Controlled Substance and were scheduled to make their first appearance in Court on January 26th, 2024

On January 28, 2024, at 2:42am, police were dispatched to an assault that was occurring outside a business in the 900 block of Rosser Avenue.  Police located a male and female in the area.  The female disclosed being assaulted by the male.  The male was subsequently arrested.  The 25 year old arrested male was found to be bound by 2 court orders that included conditions not to be in contact with the female and a condition not to leave the Province of Quebec.  The male was arrested and lodged at the Police Station where he later appeared before a Justice regarding the matters.

At 1:57 pm, Police received a report of a robbery that occurred in the alley in the 300 block between 15th ST and 16th St. The adult male victim was walking in the alley when he was approached by two males who were not known to him. One of the suspects struck him in the arm twice with a baton and then after taking a small amount of cash from him struck him in the head with the baton and fled the scene. The victim was transported to BRHC where he was treated for his injuries and released. Police are on the lookout for two suspects described as: Indigenous male, approximately 6’3 in his mid 20’s wearing a red hoodie, red sweat pants. Indigenous male, approximately 5’10 wearing a black ball cap with a black puffy jacket and had a tattoo under his right eye. We are asking anyone who might have any information or video surveillance of the suspects to contact Police.

On January 25th, 2024, at 00:30 a.m. Police were called to a residence in the 1110 block of 2nd street north. The homeowner had hosted a party and two individuals he knew left and stole $280 cash and his earbuds. A 22-year-old female and a 20-year-old female were located in the area with the stolen items. Both were arrested and released for court on March 25th, 2024.

For the students and staff at Vincent Massey High School, Mr. Bebbington is more than just a teacher. He is a mentor, a friend, and a committed lifelong educator. This week, he marked a remarkable milestone: completing his 100th semester of teaching at Vincent Massey High School. Mr. Bebbington has developed and successfully taught French his entire career. He started his teaching career at Vincent Massey High School in January 1974 and has continued at Vincent Massey for the past 50 years. During this time, he has taught thousands of students, many of whom have gone on to pursue successful careers in various fields. He has worked as a teacher advisor to many student teachers, a few of which he is working with as colleagues today. Mr. Bebbington has also always been deeply involved in extracurricular activities, he has coached both the Junior Varsity and Varsity Girls and Boys soccer teams, the bowling teams, curling, and holds a weekly lunchtime Karaoke club that he started in 2022. David has also developed and is the leader of our school’s travel club. He has taken countless students and staff on educational tours to European and Canadian destinations throughout his 50 years of teaching. Mr. Bebbington shared his passion for teaching at Vincent Massey when asked why he loved teaching, “We have such a caring and qualified staff at Massey who inspire the majority of our students to be caring, thoughtful society members.” Mr. Bebbington is known for his enthusiasm, humor, and kindness in the classroom. He often uses creative methods to make his lessons engaging and fun. He also encourages his students to ask questions, explore new ideas, and challenge themselves. Mr. Bebbington’s colleagues also praised his dedication and professionalism. “David’s youthful enthusiasm for creating engaging, fun, and educational classroom learning opportunities at the age of 75 is something that every teacher should emulate.” said Mr. Grindle, a fellow teacher at Vincent Massey High School. “David has had an enormous impact on Vincent Massey’s school culture.” The staff and students at Vincent Massey are grateful for Mr. Bebbington’s kindness and guidance, and they hope he will stay with them for many more years as he has no intention of retiring soon.
