Police arrest male suspect in connection to stabbing incident in Brandon

BPS issue public safety notice following 4 drug overdoses over past weekend

Brandon Police Service Media Release The Brandon Police Service is investigating four incidents involving drug overdoses from this past weekend. All four of the individuals required immediate medical treatment and have since been released from hospital. Three of the instances are believed to be related and Brandon Police continue to investigate to determine the substances involved however heroin use is suspected in the three related incidents. At this time it is unknown if there was any presence Fentanyl. The fourth incident is believed to be a combination of Methamphetamine and Morphine use that resulted in overdose. Further testing is required and ongoing in these incidents. As these are private, medical matters the Brandon Police Service will not be commenting further on these investigations however would like to remind the public of the dangers associated to the consumption of drugs such as Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Heroin or other Opioids. The use of illicit drugs is illegal and when taken alone or in combination with other substances can result in overdose. These drugs can also unknowingly contain substances such as Fentanyl which when consumed,  can be fatal.

31-year old Brandon male dead following 2-vehicle collision near Kemnay

Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba Facebook Page On October 20, 2017, at approximately 10:50 am, Blue Hills RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Road 117 West, between the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 1A in the RM of Whitehead, near Kemnay, Manitoba. A semi-trailer southbound on Road 117 West was slowing down to turn west into a driveway when it was struck from behind by a van. The 59-year-old male driver of the semi-trailer, from the RM of Riverdale was not injured. The 31-year-old male driver of the van, from Brandon, was deceased on scene. Alcohol and seatbelts are not considered factors in this collision. A RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Halloween Food Drive

Brandon University Students Union, Assiniboine Community College Students Association & Progressive Sanitation have teamed up in an effort to fill the Samaritan House and student food banks this Halloween! If you are planning to contribute a food item or two from your home, please have them ready for their volunteers when they come around! (Watch for their identification tags!) City of Brandon 2017 Green Cart Program to End Nov. 10th

Brandon, MB – The City of Brandon Sanitation Section wishes to inform participants of its Green Cart Program that weekly pick-up for the year will conclude after Friday, November 10th.  Until then, participants are encouraged to have their compost carts placed out for collection no later than 6 a.m. on their scheduled day to ensure timely pick-up. Weather-permitting, the City of Brandon Green Cart collection program will start up again in late-spring of 2018. However, Green Cart program participants are encouraged to continue placing all kitchen waste and other accepted organics into their Green Bin during the winter months. If program participants find their bin fills up prior to the start of the 2018 program, they can empty it at any one of the City’s compost drop-off depots listed here or by taking their bin directly to the Eastview Landfill. Applications are still being accepted for new Green Cart participants in 2018. More information about the voluntary Green Cart Program can be found on the City of Brandon website or by calling 204-729-2281. A reminder for all residents of Brandon that as of November 1st, the Eastview Landfill operates on a winter schedule and is open Monday through Saturday, but closed Sundays and on Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Remembrance Day.
