2 youths charged with arson after Friday fire at Brandon Walmart: police

*** UPDATE Walmart Fire*** Members of the BPS Major Crime Section located and arrested 3 youth in relation to the fire on Thursday night.  2 of the 3 youths were charged with arson.

Fire at Brandon’s Walmart overnight

On June 7th, 2024 at 12:30am Police were called to a structure fire in the Coral Center. Investigation revealed Adirondack chairs at the front entrance had been set on fire and the fire spread to the building.  Brandon Fire Department quickly extinguished the blaze however smoke and water damage had occurred. The situation remains under investigation.

The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating this person who is: “WANTED BY POLICE”: Denzel BERCIER FOR Theft Under $5000.  In July 2023, Denzel BERCIER, on five separate occasions attended a business located in the 900 block of 18th Street North. On each occasion BERCIER was captured on video surveillance stealing items from the business. BERCIER was arrested charged and released, however has failed to attend court. Denzel BERCIER’s whereabouts are unknown at this time, please contact Brandon crime stoppers with any information. ****** The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in solving a Mischief to Property. On June 1, 2024, a male walked up to a surveillance camera located on the outside of a business in the 1000 block of 10th and proceeded to shoot the camera with a BB style handgun. The camera was damaged extensively, however captured the suspect committing the act. Assault With A Weapon

On June 5th, 2024 at approximately 1:00PM police were called to the 200 block of 8th street for a suspicious male. A 42 year old male had been told to leave the property prior to police arrival but instead he advanced, arms raised, holding a screwdriver while uttering threats. Police later located and arrested the man. During his arrest he was found in possession of the screwdriver and 2 lighters which is in contravention of his Probation Order. He was arrested and held for court June 6, 2024.

CPRSS students win hardware at 2024 Skills Canada National Competition

The 2024 Skills Canada National Competition was held in Québec City last week with more than 500 students and apprentices from across the country competing for the title of national champion in over 40 Skill Areas at the Centre de foires d’ExpoCité. The complete list of medalists is available on the Skills/Compétences Canada Website. Our school brought home hardware in five different competitions this year and is easily the highest-awarded high school in Canada! Their success is a testament to the importance of vocational education in our overall academic curriculum. As a high school, we should be proud of our Vocational departments.
