Disturbance leads to charges of Rivers man on domestic incident

Brandon Police Service Media Release At noon Thursday, police attended to a report of a disturbance in a business parking lot in the 1100 block of 18th Street. It was found that a female had escaped from a vehicle there, and fled from her boyfriend who had assaulted her over the previous 12 hours. The accused had choked, punched and slapped the victim, and refused to let her leave their residence during which time he also threatened to kill her. At some point, the couple left their residence in Rivers where the female was being held against her will, and attended to Brandon together. It was while they were in Brandon that police first became aware of this matter, when BPS were called to the 1100 block of 18th Street. After the victim escaped the vehicle in the parking lot, the accused attempted to regain control of her but was scared off by a passerby. The accused then fled the area. A warrant of arrest had been issued for the accused, Matthew Brian Dickenson, age 26 years, of Rivers, MB, as police were not able to locate him. Dickenson was located by Rivers Police Service and arrested. He was transported to the Brandon Correctional Centre where he will appear in court this morning charged with Assault, Uttering Threats to Cause Death, Forcible Confinement, Choking to Overcome Resistance, and Take a Motor Vehicle Without the Owner’s Consent.
