Glen Simard, a local teacher, has been awarded 4th place in CBC's 'This One's For You” contest which “asked Canadians to nominate someone - mom, dad, aunt, uncle, grandparent, sibling, coach or mentor - who went the extra distance to make your sports dream a reality. “ Glen was nominated by sons, Andrew & Nathan, with some assistance from their mother, Lori.  The boys aged, 10 & 12, wrote about how their father has always been there to coach or help their teams. Last summer he coached both boys baseball teams and each team won their respective league titles. In addition to coaching, Glen was also the Mosquito director and Vice President of the Baseball Association in Brandon. Anyone, who spends time at the rink will certainly recognize him from behind one of the benches of either a house league, or double roster team. All of this is in addition to the hours he puts in organizing intramurals in basketball, soccer and floor hockey at the school level. Brandon City police are investigating a death they have described as “suspicious following a 911 call on Thursday evening in Brandon. Officers responded to the call in the 3600 block of Centennial Blvd, and found the man, who was unresponsive. The body was removed and transported to Winnipeg for an autopsy. The victim’s name was not released, and no arrests have been made. Police are continuing to investigate.

Jayson Scott Larry McDougall, of Dauphin, has been accused of making counterfeit money after RCMP received a report of counterfeit money being circuited at a business in Dauphin. RCMP were able to identify the 39-year old suspect after scanning security video from the business. The suspect was arrested at his home and they seized the original $50 bill and a computer. It was later determined that a local financial institution had also been passed counterfeit bills. All of the bad bills had the same serial numbers. Photo: RCMP File  

An 11-year-old girl is safe after an alleged abduction in Brandon, Man. RCMP say they were dispatched to the call just before 5:30 last evening and were provided a description of the vehicle. Within minutes, officers had spotted the car on the Trans-Canada near Highway 5. Officers arrested two men along with a woman. There was also an open liquor bottle and cocaine found in the car. A 27-year-old man from Portage la Prairie, Man.,and a 22-year-old woman from Brandon face abduction and trafficking charges. A 45-year-old man from Portage la Prairie is charged with unlawful transportation of liquor in a motor vehicle. The young girl was not hurt and police say she was related to one of the suspects in the vehicle.

Manitoba's Integrated High-Risk Sex Offender Unit, Winnipeg Police and RCMP are asking for help in locating 43-year old, Raine James Semple. He is wanted to a Canada-wide warrant for parole revocation after he failed to return for his curfew on Thursday. A convicted sex offender he also goes by the name of Rene James Everett.
