On November 18th, 2023, at approximately 9:30 pm, police responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 100 blk of 13th Street. Police discovered that the front door of the residence had been smashed out and the individual responsible had fled the area. Police later located the individual responsible and as a result a 24 year old Brandon man was arrested and charged with Mischief Under $ 5000.00.

Assault on Police Officer

On Friday night, Police responded to a residence in the west-end of the city for a disturbance between a male and a female. While members were speaking with the male outside of the residence, the female suspect exited the residence and approached Police. She began fighting with the Police members and spit on one of the officers. The 27 year-old female was arrested for Assault Police Officer and was later released from Police custody. She is scheduled to appear in Court in January.

Comedy roast of Mayor Jeff Fawcett raises funds for transitional housing project in Brandon

Crossing the Line - Brandon's Transitional Housing Fundraising Event was held in the Wheat City on Thursday evening featuring a roast of Brandon City Mayor Jeff Fawcett. The event, held at the Victoria Inn, was presented by the John Howard Society of Brandon in support of their efforts to raise the final million dollars required to construct a 24-unit transitional housing project here in Brandon. The Brandon Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating this person who is: “WANTED BY POLICE”:  Krischan PRINCE FOR Theft, Possession of Breaking Instruments & Fail to Comply with Release Order X2. On October 24, 2023, PRINCE was positively identified thru video surveillance stealing a bicycle from a Brandon High School. PRINCE used bolt cutters to cut the lock and then rode away on the bike. PRINCE was on a Release Order and as a result of the crime he breached several conditions on his Release Order. On October 27th, 2023, a female was out Christmas shopping at a business located in the 900 block of 18th Street North. The female, however did not realize this business was not owned by Santa Clause and neglected to pay for the double stroller, tablets and other hardware related items. The suspects’ picture was captured on surveillance and attached to this release.

Man charged with Second-Degree Murder in fatal hammer attack in Brandon

On the evening of November 15, 2023, the victim died of his injuries in HSC. On November 16, 2023, police arrested 32-year-old Ryan MECAS while he was in Brandon Correctional Centre on an additional Charge of Second-Degree Murder.  He will appear today in court.  MECAS Appeared in court on November 13, 2023, on charges of Aggravated Assault, Assault with a Weapon and Arson with Disregard for Human Life. Correction on the original release, the date of the offence and the report was 2023-11-12. Original release from November 14, 2023: Aggravated Assault On 2023-11-13, at approximately 1:15pm, the Brandon Police Service received a report from the 800 block of 15th Street that a suspect was attacking people with a hammer.  A description of the suspect was provided by witnesses on scene, and officers subsequently located the accused a short distance from the area.  While on scene, 911 received a second call of a possible house fire on the same block.  Brandon Fire (BFES) attended the home and made entry after witnesses indicated that a victim of the hammer attack was potentially still inside the building.  An adult male was pulled from the burning house by BFES.  The patient was found to have severe trauma to his head from multiple hammer strikes and was transported to the BRHC before being air lifted by STARS Air Ambulance to the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg.  Investigation resulted in learning that the initial fire to the home was deliberately set using accelerants.  A canister of accelerant and the weapon used during the assault was recovered by police at the scene of the fire.  A second adult male victim was found to have been struck in the head with a hammer by the suspect, however sustained minor injuries to the top of his head.  The suspect and the victims are known to each other, and the most recent medical condition of the victim transported to HSC is listed as “critical but stable”.  A 32-year-old male has been lodged at BPS to appear for court 2023-11-14, for the charges of Aggravated Assault, Assault with a Weapon, and Arson with Disregard for Human Life.
