ROH’s The Kingdom & Brutus Beefcake headline wrestling shows in Souris & Virden

The Canadian wrestling Elite (CWE) will be coming back to Western Manitoba with several impressive shows scheduled to take place.  The CWE's Struttin' & Cuttin' Tour, which features wrestlers from around the world, will be touching down in Virden (November 13) and Souris (November 14). WWE Legend Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake headlines the tour along with The Kingdom.  The Kingdom "is a villainous professional wrestling stable, currently working for Ring of Honor (ROH) and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).  The team currently consisting of Matt Taven, TK O'Ryan and Vinny Marseglia".  Rhett Titus another ROH wrestler is also scheduled to appear along with "The Japanese Beast" Shigehiro, Belgium's "Belgian Bull" Robin Lekime, and the CWE Champion "Hotshot" Danny Duggan. Brandon’s Tyler Coulter signs in Sweden with Vimmerby

Tyler Coulter has signed with Vimmerby a Swedish Division 1 ice hockey team.  Coulter scored 176 points (76g + 100a) during his four seasons in the WHL with the Wheat Kings.  "I hope to contribute offensively. I know the team has done well so far and hope to take it one more step," said Coulter about joining his new team.  He will board a plane to Sweden tomorrow and is scheduled to be in Vimmerby on Monday evening.  He will be the lone Canadian on the team.

2018-19 North Central Hockey League new faces in new places

The North Central Hockey League season officially gets underway tomorrow with three games on tap.  All nine teams will return to the league for 2018/19 including  the defending North Central Hockey League champion Grandview Comets.  Each team play a single home-and-home schedule against each of the other teams for a total of 16 games. Th Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks appear to have added some additional firepower to their lineup including Dustin Fisher, Bradley Bowles  and Taylor Sanheim.  Brad Cole, who played 3 seasons in the AHL and numerous seasons of pro hockey in Europe, is also listed on the roster of the C-Hawks. Other new faces looking to make an impact are Rylee Zimmer (Russell), Jordan McCausland (Shoal Lake), Derek LeBlanc (Virden), Corey Rae (Moosomin), Layne Anderson (Rivers) and Brock Nixon (Russell).

Brandon 13u Marlins named high performance team of the year

The Brandon 13u Marlins baseball team received Baseball Manitoba's award for High Performance Team of the Year (minor) at an awards banquet last night in Winnipeg.  Coached by Dave Martine, the team finished first in the Winnipeg league with a 18-2 record prior to going 3-0 in the provincial qualifier and 5-1 at provincials.  They closed out the season by going 3-3 to finish 4th at AAA Westerns.  Martine also received an award as the High Performance Coach of the Year.

New faces join THHL teams

The 2018/19 Tiger Hills Hockey League season got underway with games starting on October 19.   Thirteen teams have returned to the league including the defending league champion Gladstone Lakers.  Gladstone upset the Killarney Shamrocks in last season's finals.   The Shamrocks had been a 2-time defending league champion (15/16 & 16/17) prior to last season.  Brandon Switzer, a highly sought after free agent, joined Killarney this season.  Looking to keep pace the Boissevain Border Kings added several new players for 18/19 including former Brandon Wheat King Darren Bestland and former Prince Albert Raider Devon LeBlanc. Other notable newcomers to the league looking to make an impact include Matt Greening (Deloraine), Graehme Hore (Wawanesa), Shayne Wiebe (Neepawa), Maverick Rafter (MacGregor) and Montana Tanner (Wawanesa).
