Wheat Kings deal defenseman, Brandon product signs with Moose Jaw

Brandon, MB. – Brandon Wheat Kings’ General Manager Grant Armstrong has completed a Western Hockey League trade sending 20-year-old Defenceman Kade Jensen to the Victoria Royals in exchange for a 5th round draft pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft. The Wheat Kings had until this Saturday to meet the WHL twenty year old limit of three players per roster.  The move leaves Brandon with Goaltender Logan Thompson, Defenceman James Shearer and Winger Evan Weinger as the team’s 20-year-old contingent. “The 20-year-old deadline is always one of the most difficult decisions each year as you see a veteran player leave your room.” Armstrong said. “Kade has been a great teammate during his time in Brandon and we wish him nothing but the best in Victoria”. Jensen, from Calgary, was originally acquired at last year’s WHL trade deadline deal with the Swift Current Broncos along with Goaltender Travis Child, a 2nd round pick in 2019 and a 5th round pick in 2018 draft in exchange for then 20-year-old Goaltender Jordan Papirny and a 4th round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft. In 57 games with the Wheat Kings Jensen recorded 3 goals and 7 assists for 10 points to go along with 99 penalty minutes. Anderson signs with Moose Jaw Calder Anderson, of Brandon, has signed a Standard Players Agreement with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL. The 5'9”, 155lb forward is currently playing with the Brandon AAA Midget Wheat Kings and has recorded 24 points in 19 games. The 15-year old was selected 134th overall in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft. The Warriors also announced the signing of Cory King from Souris. King currently laces them up for the AAA Midget Southwest Cougars where he has 15 points in 16 games. He was also drafted in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft, 98th overall. “We are pleased to announce the signings of Cory King and Calder Anderson this afternoon. Both players have had excellent starts to their 15 year old years in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League with the Southwest Cougars and Brandon Wheat Kings respectively. Both Cory and Calder bring skill, compete, and a high hockey IQ to our club,” commented Warriors General Manager Alan Millar.
