Carberry takes leave from THHL, Wawanesa re-enters league

The Carberry Plainsmen, one of last seasons league finalists, have taken a leave from the league. They will be replaced by the Wawanesa Jets who will re-enter the league for the first time in the last 5-6 years. The Jets will play in the western division, leaving 6 teams in the eastern division and 7 in west. Killarney is the defending league champion. The season gets underway on October the 20th.

Wheat City Golf Course Closing for the season shortly

Brandon, MB – Another season of 18-hole play is winding down at Brandon’s Wheat City Golf Course, with the last day of course play scheduled for Sunday, October 15th, weather-permitting. Special fall pricing remains in place until closing day – 18 holes for just $23! Call the Wheat City Golf Course Pro Shop at 204-729-2177 to book your final tee time! Following the course’s last day of operation, staff will begin preparing the course for winter. As such, the public is reminded that use of the course (hitting of balls anywhere on the course surface) after Oct. 15th is strictly prohibited to ensure the safety of course staff and the public. The City of Brandon would like to extend its sincere appreciation to all golfers who took the opportunity to play the full course this season and support its efforts to maintain and improve the golfing experience at Brandon’s publicly-owned 18-hole golf course. "Our community partners have really stepped up to the plate to give season ticket holders even more bang for their buck," said Athletic Director Russ Paddock. BU Athletics, in conjunction with 12 participating partners, are pleased to unveil a new Rewards Card for all 2017-18 season ticket holders. All the action gets underway on October 27 when the Bobcat volleyball teams welcome the Saskatchewan Huskies for their Canada West home opener. The BU basketball teams hit the floor for the first time at the HLC on November 3 against the Victoria Vikes. North Central Hockey League adds one team for 17/18

The North Central Hockey League has grown by one team, as the Shoal Lake Eagle were accepted back into the league, at the league’s annual meeting yesterday.  All 8 teams who participated in the league last season will return for 20217/18.  The league will consist of one division with each team playing a home-and-home series against each of the other teams for a 16-game schedule.  Games are expected to begin the 2nd week of November.  A team from The Pas had also applied to join the league and their application was voted down by league representatives.

Boston Bruins alumni team to play charity game in Shilo

Calling all bruins fans, the Boston Bruins greats of the past will be in Shilo on Thursday, November the 30th to play a charity game against the Shilo Stags. Shilo Minor Hockey is putting on the event and game time is 6:00 pm at the Gunner Arena in Shilo. The Bruins Alumni have been giving back for more than 39 years and have raised more than $5 million for charities. General admission tickets are $40. For ticket information please see poster below.
