Reston’s “Jacked Jesus” Tommy Lee Curtis to headline wrestling card in Brandon

Reston's Shaggy Campbell (ring name: “Jacked Jesus” Tommy Lee Curtis) will be headlining a Cloud 9 Wrestling event in Brandon on February 25th. The card, dubbed "The Perfect Storm", will take place at the Great Western Roadhouse (1125 18th St) on Saturday February 25. Campbell told bdnmb.ca that ever since he was 6 years old and first saw Shawn Michaels, being a wrestler was the only thing he ever wanted to do. When he was older he received training from Lance Storm in Calgary and graduated from the Storm Wrestling Academy in 2006. He used to wrestle approximately 50 matches a year and now that he's getting a little older he tends to focus more on quality than quantity and has scaled back to around 2 matches a month. In his career, Campbell has wrestled coast to coast in Canada hitting every province except Nova Scotia and PEI. He's wrestled numerous times in the United States, mainly North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. "I participated in a Ring of Honor Camp that took place in Pennsylvania and New Jersey that was a great learning experience" said Campbell. Throughout the years, he has shared the ring with many top stars including the likes of Teddy Hart, Kid Kash, Tatanka, Silas Young, Jimmy Jacobs, Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, Kazarian, Kenny Omega, Ariya Daivari, Eugene, New Jack, Nick Aldis, Carlito, Psicosis, and Davey Boy Smith Jr. Cloud 9 is based out of Minot, North Dakota and this event will mark their first ever appearance in the Wheat City. In addition to Campbell, the evening will also feature top stars from the American Midwest as well as the top stars from across Canada including 20 year veterans “Zombie Killer” Mentallo and “Canadian Crusher” AJ Sanchez who are the absolute who’s who in Canada who also achieved success in Mexico and Japan. Field of Dreams

Give Ross Sheard credit he isn't thinking small. The Sheard family owned and operated the local McDonalds plus the operations in Neepawa and Portage.  Roughly 12 months ago they sold those restaurants and now Ross said to himself "hey I have an idea".  Why not build a huge golf driving range plus a bar and restaurant. Here is the concept, let's buy 17 acres of land near the Trans Canada Highway about 3 kilometers west of Brandon.  Then develop this huge chunk of land into something similar to the chain Top Golf.  Give the people of Brandon and Western Manitoba something totally different and unique. https://topgolf.com/us/ (Photo of proposed location courtesy of GVC Photography) Sheard told BDNMB.CA today that he feels people have nothing to do in Brandon other that maybe a Wheat Kings game or bowling.  "This will be a real sports bar as well." Shanks Driving Range and Grill is expected to open within 12 months and also of note they will use all local suppliers and contractors in the development of the property. Stay tuned for more news on this exciting project.

Wheat Kings claim Winnipeg Jets Challenge Cup U15A1 title

Brandon’s Worthington signs with Saskatoon, preparing to take the next step

Brandon's Colten Worthington, a forward, recently agreed to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement with the Saskatoon Blades. He was selected by the Blades in the 11th round (233rd overall) in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft. "I was very excited to be apart of this great organization and I was really excited where it is because it isn’t to far from my hometown. I had just got home from school and was talking to my dad when my phone blew up and I had realized that I was drafted. It was a great feeling" Worthington told bdnmb.ca about his draft experience. To date this season, he has registered 18 points in 25 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings U18 AAA club. If all goes according to plan, Worthington would like to suit up with Saskatoon as soon as they feel he is ready. "I would love to be playing in Saskatoon but with how strong they are with the last two draft years I may not be able to so hopefully I play a couple of games with them next year and then I’ll return back here to play u18 with the Wheat Kings." As Worthington embarks on the next chapter of his hockey journey, he understands what he needs to work on to take it to the next level. "I need to work on my first three steps and make sure that I am always ready. Because playing at the next level is a big step and it is a much faster pace game so for me to be in that position I would need to improve my foot speed and get my first three steps down. Brandon’s Fisher signs with Everett, looks forward to future

Back at the start of November, Brandon's Kaeson Fisher, a defensemen, signed a Standard Player Agreement with the WHL's Everett Silvertips. He was selected 124th overall in the sixth round of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft "Everett was the first team that ever reached out to me so to have an organization as good as they are was a dream come true for me. My mom and I were sitting in the car outside of my siblings school waiting to pick them up" Fisher told bdnmb.ca about where he was when he found out the Silvertips had selected him in the draft. While he lists the Winnipeg Jets as his favorite NHL team and Josh Morrisey as his favorite player, he tries to model his game around Cale Makar "because he is a smooth skater and uses lots of fakes all over the ice". Fisher is currently a member of the Brandon Wheat Kings U18 AAA squad, and his goal is to be able to play for the Silvertips as early as next year. "I have to go to camp next year with a purpose and prove myself as a player that can play at that level. I think I definitely need to get a lot bigger and stronger if I want to play for Everett in the near future. See how strong the guys are in the league is a daily motivator to keep pushing myself" said Fisher.
