Jonah Lemoine picked up 3 goals and 3 assists Sunday afternoon to lead his 2K8 Warrior teammates to an 11-3 victory over the MB Penguins, in claiming the 2008 tournament championship at the AAA Summer Hockey Challenge. Cole Lobreau pick up 3 points on the strength of 2 goals and an assist. Owen Sigvaldason (2), Cole Adams, Quinten Fisk, Kaden Allan, and Cole Hunter also scored for the Warriors, while Brady Shields made 12 saves to pickup the win. Owen Stanley, Ethan Stanley, and Cole Dupuis replied with single markers for the Penguins.

This past weekend Brandon’s own U16 Heat Softball ball team dug their cleats into the dirt in Winnipeg for the 2020 Provincial B Softball Championship. After completing their four game stretch on Saturday our young ladies dominated round robin play and finished the day undefeated. The successful 4 and 0 record on the field provided the team with a well earned spot in the semifinals facing Winkler. The first few innings kept everyone on the edge of their seats exchanging runs evenly. Brandon’s efforts earned them a close 6-5 win, advancing them to the goal medal game. Sunday afternoon we witnessed our Brandon Softball athletes share the Championship field with Hamiota. Determined to earn their gold medal Brandon was able to secure a big lead after the first inning and maintain their lead for the duration of the game. The successful team effort and willingness to compete for every run ended in a 8-5 win, capping off their Championship run undefeated and a well earned gold medal! (submitted)

On Friday evening, the Linden Lanes Knuckles defeated the East Side Kings to claim the Olde English Road Hockey League championship for 2020. The Knuckles swept the best of three series, winning by scores of 6-3 and 11-6. "We received some outstanding goaltending in that first game from regular season MVP Brad Schoonbaert" said an ecstatic owner/captain Cole McCaig. "Going into game 2, we knew we had to keep the foot on the pedal and Sobs goal on the opening shift set the tone for the rest of the game" added McCaig. "Lifting the OERHL trophy for the first time was an amazing experience....I'm nearly at a loss for words. In my neighborhood, they used to say you couldn't be a superstar without winning one.  "Now they can't say that about me." Knuckles goalie Brad Schoonbaert. At the conclusion of the game, the league recognized Brandon Switzer as the playoff MVP. The former Flin Flon Bomber was an offensive force in leading the Knuckles to Friday's championship. He teamed-up with former Brandon Wheat King forward Tanner Kaspick to form a formidable 1-2 scoring punch that proved too much for the Kings to handle. East Side Kings captain, Jesse Linner could not be reached for comment following the game.

Andrews Field Baseball Stadium recently received word that they would be receiving funds to improve their community sports field through Red River Mutual’s #SpruceUpYourStory initiative. Through the initiative, funds (up to $150,000) were available to “well-worn and well-loved community spaces across Manitoba and Saskatchewan”. Nate Andrews told bdnmb.ca that Andrews Field Baseball Stadium was awarded $14,000 and that the money would be used to complete several projects on the diamond including finishing the backstop wall, new netting for the dugouts and padding the dugout rails. Andrews added that the organization is always looking for ways to improve the stadium, whether it is upgrading the sound system or updating the overall aesthetics of the facility.

2011 Championship The Winnipeg Yetis (pictured above) scored an astounding 167 goals (while only surrendering 4) in 6-games to capture the 2011 Age Division at this past weekend's AAA Summer Hockey Challenge held in Brandon. In Sunday afternoon's championship game, they defeated the Pilot Mound Buffaloes 27-1. Ryder Olford (7g, 5a) and Aiden Christie (6g,4a) lead the way offensively for the Yeti's in the championship tit. Ryden Derlago replied with the lone goal for the Buffaloes. 2007 Championship The Holland Rockets received 4-goals from Charlie Hill on route to a 9-3 victory over the Southwest Jets in the 2007 final. Ryder Wolfe also had a big game picking up 1 goal and 3 assists for the Rockets. The Jets received 2 goals from Tyson Draper, in the loss.
