Kale Clague recalled by the LA Kings, Coulter named player of the month

Former Brandon Wheat King Kale Clague has been called up by the NHL's Los Angeles Kings. Clague has been playing with the Ontario Reign (AHL) where he has 15 points in 27 games to date. He was a second-round (51st overall) selection of the Kings at the 2016 NHL entry draft. Tyler Coulter was recently named the Howie’s Hockey Tape Rookie of the Month in the ECHL for November. Coulter amassed 16 points in 15 games with the Rapid City Rush. It should be noted that Peter Quenneville leads the Rush in scoring with 34 points in 27 games. After a brief stint with the Western Hockey League's Spokane Chiefs, Baron Thompson  returned to the Dauphin Kings lineup. Colby Robak is off to a strong start with his new club. The smooth-skating defensemen has 7 points in his first 8 games with the Schwenningen Wild Wings a professional German ice hockey team. Current Wheat Kings Braden Schneider and Ridly Greig were both selected for the 2020 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects game.

Brandon U17 AAA Wheat Kings score major assist

On Saturday December 7th the Brandon U17 AAA Wheat Kings hockey team volunteered to help the Samaritan House. The players assisted putting together Christmas hampers, did various small construction projects, and completed some cleaning and organizing of the warehouse. According to Derek Sobkow, one of the teams coaches, “The experience really hit home for the players, after seeing how many people are effected in their back yard."

WWHL All-Star roster revealed, team to travel to Winnipeg to battle a Winnipeg All-Star team

The Wendy’s Winter Hockey League, which has existed in Brandon and Westman for the past 28 years, will take an All-Star team of players from it's four divisions to play a game in Winnipeg at Bell MTS Iceplex vs the Winnipeg All Star team.  The Wendy’s Winter Hockey League is Brandon’s Premier Adult Safe Hockey League. After several weeks of roster choices the WWHL have made the following players captains for this game: Tyler Woods, Jason Earl, & Justin Perreaux. The team coaches are former Brandon Wheat King and Dallas Stars first round draft pick Scott Glennie and  former AAA Midget goalie and OCN Blizzard enforcer Jeremy Champagne. Neelin Spartans capture Provincial “AAA” Girls Volleyball Championship

Saturday evening in Winnipeg, the Neelin Spartan Varsity Girls captured the Provincial “AAA” Girls Volleyball Championship. The Spartans defeated the Linden Christian Wings (26-24, 25-14) to lay claim to the title. They finished first in their round-robin pool with a 2-1 record before cruising through the playoff bracket undefeated. The Spartans defeated the Dauphin Clippers and the Jeanna-Sauve Olympiens in bracket play en-route to the championship match. The team roster can be viewed here at the bottom of the page.
