Brandon Tournament of Champions 2025 Week 2 Wrap-up

The second week of the 54th annual Brandon Tournament of Champions ended today with champions being crowned in three different divisions.  Forty  teams participated over the weekend including teams from Moosomin, Winnipeg, Minot, Regina, Saskatoon & more. M and M Food Market U11 A1 Henry Green, Doughty Toms, and Hunter Birch scored for the Moosomin Ice Badgers as they edged out the Minot Wolves 3-1 in the U11 A1 championship final. Goalie Karter Hebert registered stopped 38 of 39 shots to pick up the win. Keumper Aberle replied with the lone goal for the Wolves. Assiniboine College Female U13 AA Paisley McIntyre scored at the 13:13 mark of the 3rd period to lift the Southeast Youngfellows Gold Wings to a narrow 2-1 win over the Saskatoon Comet Hurricanes, in the Assiniboine College Female U13 AA final. Hunter Sands also scored for the Gold Wings who went a went a perfect 5-0 on the weekend. Ellie Jeffrey replied for the Hurricanes. East Side Mario's U15 AA In a battle of two undefeated teams, the Eastman Southwest Jets won the A-Side Final 4.3 over the Fort Francis Canadians. The Jets received goals from four different skaters; Justin Robidoux, Dallas Vermette, Dalin Comeault, and Lucas Roeland. Scoring for the Canadians were Kolton Joyce, Jayce Gavel, and Kolby Wood.

Brandon Firefighter Paramedic Chaelynn Stewart (Kitz) along with Saskatchewan’s team Martin go 2 and 0 in the opening days of the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Chaelynn born and raised in Oxbow Saskatchewan moved to the Westman area a couple years ago.    She completed at the Scotties for the first time in 2021 followed by the Canadian National Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in 2023 and 2024. Stewart represented Saskatchewan at back-to-back Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championships with her now husband Brayden Stewart in 2018 and 2019. In 2018, the pair finished first place in their pool with a 5–2 record before losing in the quarterfinals. At their second appearance in 2019, they just missed the playoffs with a 4–3 record. Stewart joined the Sherry Andersonrink for the 2019–20 season. The team had three semifinal finishes and two quarterfinal finishes on the World Curling Tour.  At the 2020 Saskatchewan Scotties Tournament of Hearts, they lost in the final. Team Anderson was invited to represent Saskatchewan at the 2021 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, and finished in sixth place. She currently plays third on team Saskatchewan with team Martin. Brandon Tournament of Champions 2025 Week 1 Wrap-up

Photo: Brandon TOC Week one of the annual Hockey Brandon Tournament of Champions concluded Sunday with champions being decided in 3 different divisions. Male U13 A  Merrick Huberdeau notched 3 goals and an assist to lead the Russell Rams to a decisive 6-3 victory over the Dauphin Kings in the Male U13A final. Also scoring for Russell was Cash Nerbas (1), Jaxxon Tremblay (1), and Wickus Pieterse (2). Goalie Ryder Lappage recorded 12 saves to pickup the win in net for the Rams. Male U13 AA The Brandon Wheat Kings Black U13A club scored 5 goals in the first period en-route to a 9-1 drubbing of the Minto Wolves in the U13A final on Sunday afternoon. Kale Nicol lead the way with 5 goals and 2 assists. Walker Hargreaves, Bowe Bridges, Nixon Boguski and Oliver Martin each chipped in with a goal a piece for the Wheat Kings. Male U15 A  Rayden Mayer and Mex Kessler each found he back of the net 3 times as the Prairie Storm Thunder rolled past the Swan Valley Stampeders 9-5 in a game played at the Enns Brothers Arena. Swan River's Dylan Anderson replied with a hattrick of his own in the loss, while teammate Luke Harness had 5-points on the strength of 2 goals and 3 assists.. Week 2 takes place this weekend and sees teams from Regina, Minot, Winnipeg, Fort Francis  and more competing in 3 different divisions. U11 A1 Female U13 AA Male U15 AA

Hawryluk moves up the ladder

Former Brandon Wheat King, from Roblin and now calls Brandon home ,Jayce Hawryluk has made a mid season change in Europe. Jayce started the year in Slovakia in Nove Zamky and recently his contract was bought out by EHC Kloten in the top league in Switzerland. Kloten is roughly 15 minutes away from Zurich. Of note Hawryluk informed BDNMB.CA while we were in Europe his favorite meal is seaweed. The staff and mgmt of BDNMB.CA DO NOT agree with his meal preference.

Schoonbaert SIgns With Top UK Team

Brandon's Brad Schoonbaert has left Kansas City in the ECHL and has made a deal with one of the top teams in the UK called Cardiff Devils. Former Steinbach Piston and U OF C forward has had a decent start to his pro career in the ECHL with Kansas City.
