Convenient Store Visit Leads to Charges
On August 24th at approximately 7:00 PM, three males entered a business located in the 800 block of 1st Street. They were shortly followed by another group of three males. During the encounter, one individual from the second group produced a canister of bear spray and discharged it toward the first group. In response, a second male retrieved a concealed machete from his backpack and began chasing the individual with the bear spray through the store. Both groups fled the scene prior to police arrival.
At 8:12 PM, officers responding to an unrelated call in the 1300 block of 8th Street encountered two males who had been involved in the earlier incident — identified as victims of the bear spray. One of the individuals, a 14-year-old male, was positively identified through video surveillance as the person who brandished the machete. He was arrested and subsequently released on an Undertaking with a court date set for November 4th, 2025.
Later, at 10:11 PM, officers conducted a person check near the intersection of 2nd Street and College Avenue. An 18-year-old male was identified from surveillance footage as the individual who discharged the bear spray. During the interaction, the male provided a new residential address; however, he was found to be bound by a Release Order requiring him to reside at a different, specified location.
He was arrested and held in BPS custody. He is scheduled to appear in court in the morning facing charges of Assault with a Weapon and Failure to Comply with a Release Order.
