Update: Weapons Call near 1st street and Maryland Ave

On November 1, 2022, at 9:53 am, police responded to a report of a fight at a residence on Cornwallis Cres.  When police arrived at the home they learned that the individuals involved had fled and were in possession of firearms.

Police immediately notified the two nearby schools of the situation, and the schools went into a lockdown as a precaution.

At 10:03 am, police received a 911 call from an individual within Crocus Plains High School, that there was a person inside with a firearm.  This call initiated an immediate response from police as officers began the process of securing the school while conducting a search of it for any suspects.  Following a thorough search and an investigation into the matter including interviewing employees and viewing security footage, police were able to determine that the suspects never came into the school, and the lock down was ended by 11:35 am.

At approximately 10:00 am, police had located and arrested one of the suspects a short distance away from the residence.  The 19-year-old female was in possession of an air soft pistol. She was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today on weapons charges.

The Police Service Dog unit assisted in recovering a sawed off shotgun nearby the original residence.

A BPS By-law officer who was in the area at the time of the original call observed one of the suspects immediately leave the area in a vehicle. The vehicle went to the area of the Brandon Shoppers Mall where police were able to locate and arrest a second suspect near 20th street on the west side of the mall at 10:16 am. The 27-year-old male will appear in court today on weapons charges.

Police were aware of an outstanding subject from the initial call, who was responsible for an assault there and was possibly in possession of a firearm.  Attempts to locate the suspect at several other residences within Brandon were made before the 27-year-old was located at a residence in the 900 block of 26th street at 1:13 pm.  He surrendered to police and was arrested.  He was not in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest.

A fourth suspect returned to the initial residence on Cornwallis Cres on her own and was arrested at the scene by officers shortly before 11:00 am.  The 19-year-old female was wanted on outstanding charges of Fail to Attend Court X2 and will appear in court on January 9, 2023.

Further investigation revealed that the 27-year-old male suspect had assaulted and threatened to shoot a female victim at the residence on Cornwallis Cres which prompted the initial report.  The victim sustained minor injuries, but did not require medical attention.

The 27-year-old male was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today on charges of Assault, Uttering Threats, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order X3.
