Assault with Weapon Investigation

On May 30^th, 2026, at approximately 5:02 a.m., police responded to a 911 call reporting an injured male in the 200 block of 3rd Street. Officers located a 46-year-old male suffering from a significant head injury believed to have been caused by a machete. He was transported to Brandon Regional Health Centre by ambulance for treatment of the non-life-threatening injury.

The victim reported being attacked from behind while outside a residence in the 100 block of 4th Street with a friend. The victim was unable to identify the suspect. The 22-year-old male acquaintance who was present at the time of the incident declined to provide a statement or further information to investigators.

Police conducted an extensive investigation, including a Police Service Dog track from the location where the victim was found. The track led officers to a residence in the 100 block of 4th Street, where blood was observed in the yard and near the rear entrance. Five individuals, including the 22-year-old acquaintance, were detained from the residence. All detained suspects were later released once sober.

Despite these efforts, investigators were unable to obtain information from the victim or witnesses that would assist in identifying a suspect. As all investigative avenues have been exhausted with the information available, the file has been closed.
