Vincent Massey School presents: Matilda The Musical

On November 14, 15, and 16, 35 students from Vincent Massey High School will channel their inner “Revolting Children” as they bring Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical to life. The show, packed with high- energy dance numbers, catchy songs, and side-splitting humour, will run at 7:30 nightly on the Westman Centennial Auditorium (WMCA) stage. Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Award-winning musical revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination, and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. With the book by Dennis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin, Matilda has won 47 international awards and continues to thrill sold-out audiences of all ages around the world. Matilda, played by Shelby English, is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents (Kobe Lim and Jocelyn Roney) but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey (Jordan Koroluk). Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other’s lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but also appreciate Matilda’s extraordinary personality. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however — the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull (Cameron DeGroot) hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be school pupils’ saving grace! The production is directed and produced by Nancy Pitcairn and Brittany MacDonald, and choreographed by Brittany MacDonald, with costumes by Karen Rogowsky, and vocal direction by Laura Lamb. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, and $12 for children 12 years and under. Tickets can be purchased in person at the WMCA box office, online at www.wmca.ca, and over the phone by calling (204) 728-9510.
