The Onion Factory, finger food meant for sharing

Chef Derek Collins is bringing his Onion Factory Food Trailer to Brandon's Food Truck Warz this September 13-14-15. The truck specializes in serving Blooming Onions, a dish consisting of one large onion which is cut to resemble a flower, battered, and deep-fried. They are cooked to perfection and the portions are very generous. The individual pieces are like onion rings, crispy outside and tangy and sweet inside. Derek offers a variety of different options including the All Beef Onion which is garnished with sirloin steak chunks and served with a horseradish aioli. A new menu item this year is The Mighty Zeus consisting of a Blooming Onion garnished with diced cucumber, tomatoes, green peppers, onions, black olives and tossed in a signature Greek dressing. The onion is then topped with feta cheese and tzatziki sauce. The Onion Factory is just one of twenty-six food trucks from around the province who will be serving up some delicious curbside eats at this year's event. It all gets underway Friday, September 13 at 5pm. The official Facebook event page can be found here.

Local organizations to raise funds/awareness at Food Truck Warz

Food Truck Warz is a FREE fun event where people can come together and enjoy amazing food, midway rides, and shop at a local Made In Manitoba market. The event, now in its third year, has quickly become one of Brandon's most highly anticipated and well-attended annual events. In addition to all the fun and excitement, the event also helps to benefit several charity and not for profit initiatives in the process. Four local organizations will have the opportunity to raise both funds and awareness at this year's event including Pawsitive Communities (merchandise), Habitat for Humanity (beer garden), and Westman Dreams for Kids (50/50). The John Howard Society of Brandon will be managing the parking at the Brandon Riverbank Discovery Centre over the weekend. Parking is only $2 per car, per day. All funds raised from parking goes directly to the John Howard Society of Brandon. "Food Truck Warz and bdnmb.ca are locally owned and operated businesses and we're always looking for new ways to help support the community" said co-event organizer Darryl Wolski. "Incorporating these organizations into the weekends activities is just one small way we can give back" added Wolski.
